Re: Diabetes II is a dietary disease & can be reversed!

Another trial which seems to show that changing your dietary habits can reverse Type II diabetes.

"Nearly half of patients have reversed type 2 diabetes in a "watershed" trial, say doctors in Newcastle and Glasgow.

People spent up to five months on a low-calorie diet of soups and shakes to trigger massive weight loss.

Isobel Murray, 65, who had weighed 15 stone, lost over four stone (25kg) and no longer needs diabetes pills. She says: "I've got my life back."

The charity Diabetes UK says the trial is a landmark and has the potential to help millions of patients."

New research which suggests it may be possible to trigger the pancreas to regenerate itself through a programme of fasting. Seems good results may be possible for both Type I and II sufferers.

"The pancreas can be triggered to regenerate itself through a type of fasting diet, say US researchers.

Restoring the function of the organ - which helps control blood sugar levels - reversed symptoms of diabetes in animal experiments.

The study, published in the journal Cell, says the diet reboots the body.

Experts said the findings were "potentially very exciting" and could be "immensely" beneficial.

This is the latest study into the health benefits of the "fasting-mimicking diet".

People spend five days on a low calorie, low protein, low carbohydrate but high unsaturated-fat diet.

Then they have 25 days eating what they want - so overall it mimics periods of feast and famine."

I don't have access to the full-text Cell article, but there's no indication or explanation how they prevent the immune system from attacking and destroying the "new" beta-cells.

Edit: interesting note at the end of the beeb article:
"Dr Longo has founded a company selling fasting-mimicking diet products. They were not used in these tests and money from the business goes to charity."

"However, doctors are not calling this a cure. If the weight goes back on, then the diabetes will return.

"I will never go there again," says Isobel. So far, she has kept the weight off for two years."

It's up to the individual to take charge of their eating habits to keep the weight off or have to deal with the diabetes again.

Re: Diabetes II is a dietary disease & can be reversed!

You might find this medical research interesting. Suggests Diabetes is caused by eating saturated fats which restrict the production of insulin therefore if you then ingest simple carbohydrates it causes high spikes in blood sugar levels.

https://nutritionfacts.org/2017/07/2...e-of-diabetes/

Sure is a lot of confusion in what causes it!

For me, by removing saturated fats (from animal sources - meat and dairy) from my diet - my pre-diabetic condition and indicators returned to normal after 4 months.

Good luck
Cheers
Ann-Marie
