Cost of CT scan?

I would like to do a CT scan for nose/sinus. Does anyone know how much it might cost?

Re: Cost of CT scan?

About 3 years ago I voluntered for 2 CT scans on my head and abdomen for research purposes, and I received a copy of the images. I asked my "House doctor" if she would like a copy kept in my records and she informed me that it was irrelevant, as it requires a specialist to interpret the results.

So the second question is who will interpret the scanned data?

And the first question is why do you think you need a CT scan?

My response to your first question is, I don't know, mine was free of all charges.

If you go to any doctor they will best inform you, and the health insurance will pay for the visit.

In France 90 euro plus 23 for someone to write a report.
In CH expect in the region of 1200 CHF
In the UK expect £1000

Re: Cost of CT scan?

CT scan of the lungs, CHF 1500+ at an imaging center Zürich, IIRC something like 500-600 at the local hospital. Dfference was the consultation, interpretation, and other associated costs.

(The ZH place was a bit snooty upscale. (And who needs that in healthcare?) Care and treatment was actually worse IMO and IME than at the local hospital. After being sent to the snooty place I asked the doctor to send me somewhere else for the follow-up, and was pleasantly surprised at not only the difference in cost but also in professionalism. You don't necessarily 'get what you pay for.'..)

Has your GP or other doctor given you a referral? If not, be aware that many places will require a referral in order to make an appointment.

Also be aware that if you don't have a referral your insurance might not cover the cost. Check your policy.

My brother is a doctor but he's not in Switzerland. It costs around 170Fr in his hospital to do a CT scan but I'm wondering if I should be doing the CT scan here in Switzerland as I'm insured here.

As to the purpose, I'm connected to people who can read CT scan and give me advise. I already did some X-ray but doctors in Switzerland can't find anything useful from X-ray so I consulted my brother for his opinion. He advised me to take a CT scan and that's the context of my question.

Why is there such a big difference between France and UK? I assume CH is expensive in all aspects, but I don't know such price difference exists between UK and FR.

Re: Cost of CT scan?

I had a CT scan for ears and sinus in ZH, think the cost was about 600.00 but not sure if that covered some interpretation of the results from specialists.

CT scans are not available by your own choice on the NHS, you need to go privately, machines are expensive. Medicine in France is not free at the point of service as it is in the UK.

I actually has one in Geneva Hospital earlier in the year for 500, which I forgot about, total bill was 700. General hospitals being cheaper than private clinics.

I'll hazard a guess that you'll be hard pressed to get a CT scan in Switzerland for under 170.

(And of course there is your franchise to be paid with your Swiss insurance.)

But most importantly you may find you cannot get one done without a Verordnung from a doctor; whether your brother can order one to be done here as a doctor abroad is something you will need to research. I would doubt my local small hospital would take a foreign order without at least some form of in house consultation, which will add to the expense - although it wouldn't hurt to at least ask. The private clinics or private imaging centers might be happier to work with a doctor abroad, but be aware that costs may be higher at these.

Hope you find some answers soon... I know how frustrating it can be when diagnosis is not straightforward.
