Divorce lawyer - Zürich

Could anyone recommend a good, Zürich based family law specialist, English or French speaking, used to work with foreign couples?

We've now moved to each our own flat and things are going well. We've agreed on the terms during transition, but we both need to figure out what is the normal procedure, what are our options, what are our obligations, what are our respective rights, whether we should stay separated or divorce asap, etc.

So far the conflict level is very low and I hope to keep it that way. I'm not looking for a lawyer who will try to maximise my "financial share" at the cost of my friendly relationship with X-Man; I'd very much prefer a more compromise based approach where everyone's (and especially the Troll's) interests are considered.

Please send me contact informations and advice on PM.

Thanks a lot in advance!

Hi Trollermor

For a non-conflict separation/divorce I can recommend Jacqueline as below... she helped me with my separation back in 2010, really friendly, non-confrontational and good English

All the best, Eva

Re: Divorce lawyer - Zürich

I went through a divorce in a similar situtation, and we first went to see a mediator, who had both our and our kid's interests at heart, as well as the legal knowledge to give us sound advice. When we reached an agreement (money, custody, etc.), we shared the same lawyer and it was a smooth process to the divorce court. All in all, it was also cheaper than going straight to a lawyer.

Re: Divorce lawyer - Zürich

Thanks to all of you, I really appreciate. The conflict level is currently very low, but we're getting more and more input from more or less interested third parties (most of which aren't even Swiss and don't know what they're talking about), and the resulting background noise could easily lead to more tensions if we don't formalise things. No real rush otherwise.

We still have several years of collaboration as parents in front of is, I'm hoping we can keep them as harmonious as possible. Hopefully I'm not too naive in believing that X-Man agrees with me on that.

Re: Divorce lawyer - Zürich

I think you already got good advise here, I just wanted to wish you that all continues as friendly as it is now. I do know a couple of lawyers but I would have to ask them if they speak french/have experience with foreign affairs, I know they're excellent in English. If the options you have above aren't enough, let me know to share their info.

All the best!

Kali

Re: Divorce lawyer - Zürich

In view your conflict level is low and you both seem to have agreed on most things, the very best way to keep it at this level is to use the same lawyer !

Neither of you seem to be out to screw each other (sorry for the pun) so keep it this way and explain same to lawyer, it couldn't be fairer !

Not sure if you have kids though.

One other advantage...........half's the cost of asshole lawyers !!

Re: Divorce lawyer - Zürich

You know you can get divorced without a lawyer here. We did. Never even crossed my mind to get one involved.

You can sort it all out amongst yourselves, the judge will then tell you if it is acceptable. If something "violates" the law the judge will tell you and even suggest how to correct that.
Our judge advised us on the AHV/Pensionskassen theme and even suggested how to best decide on that, which we then did on the spot (back then there was a choice, now it's all settled by the law I think).

Am also just about to go through this process (although we had a legal separation e.g. financial liabillities, assets, child custody etc. about 19 years ago) we never did finalise the divorce, due to various reasons.

Was a little strange a few months ago to be reminded by a friend that I would be celebrating my silver wedding anniversary (if you're reading this, then you know who you are .

Soon to be (hopefully) ex-OH has finally agreed to speed it through - once he returns from his trip with a current in a couple of days. Only thing outstanding is really the pension business, and am not sure whether I can be bothered to re-hash all the old years of unpaid child-contributions, so plan on just letting it go through the divorce court without a lawyer currently.

It is good however to have the recommendation provided earlier for a lawyer if I think it might end-up going that way, so thanks for reviving this thread as I missed the first posts.

Could you share the contact, and whether you recommend them or not, after you meet with them? And do they speak English (since you were looking for either English or French speaking)?

I'm in the same situation also in the Zürich area, so I came here looking for the same thing

(And no, I'm pretty sure I'm not your soon-to-be-ex spouse )

Thank you!

Unless you can't recommend the lawyer, it would be a nice way to round this thread up with and answer to the thread-title as many others most likely will have the same question in the future. So many threads here just fizzle out without anybody really benefitting in the end apart from the OP.

You know, we still don't know if dating after 40 is successfully possible

I, and several friends, have had such success.

While I always kept 40 as a minimum (ok, there was also a 36 and 39 in the mix), some kept 30 as a max.

But we are male, and hetero.

Tom, that was then. Where would you have to set the minimum age today?

1) I can recommend a lawyer, and will do so by PM.

2) It is possible.
