Mine said after 15 years is sufficient (was overdue here as well by 2 years...)
I had my last booster just after my son was born so I guess that makes me a few years overdue too.
I'd better ask my GP next time I see him.

Re: Diptheria/Tetanus/Polio vaccine

My doctor told me today: There is tetanus+polio available, as well as tetanus+ pertussis. What's not available until about September is the tripple one tetanus+polio+pertussis.
I can wait until September so I will. (Depending on how big the demand by then it might be a little longer).

For now if you hang around Europe and the US one should choose tetanus with pertussis. A) polio does not exist anymore in US and Europe (yeah, well, when you consider how people travel I'm not so sure but still he's right, it's not at every corner) and B) pertussis appears more often again, he says.

By courtesy of my Krankenkasse, who will pay for the info I'm sharing with you here. So do.not.kill.the.messenger!

Re: Diptheria/Tetanus/Polio vaccine

I was stung by a wasp on Sunday, and as I have had no tetanus booster in over 30() years went to the doctor. I had the Diptheria / Tetanus / Polio shot. So it's available, at least in Canton Bern.

I also got the shot in Bern a few months back. It was diptheria, tetanus, pertussis and polio. Talk about a cocktail!

Preventive application may be given lower priority to than actual risks. I definitely would expect "rationing" to start soon enough to allow for such differentiations.

I know you should keep up to date with the tetanus (and I had a booster 2 or 3 years ago) but do you need boosters for the others, too? I've not had any such vaccinations since I was a nipper.

Pertussis is always recommended, especially for expectant mothers and those in frequent close contact with newborns. If in doubt, read about Riley.
Apart from specific medical reasons, there is NO excuse not to have the recommended vaccinations.

Yes, I'm all for vaccinations but, with the exception of tetanus, I didn't know that (some of?) my childhood vaccinations would need renewing.

I'm not in contact with newborns so I suppose the pertussis isn't a major issue but I thought the other vaccinations, say polio or diphtheria for example, were lifelong.

Is it advisable to go and have the full round again?

Re: Diptheria/Tetanus/Polio vaccine

I go a refresher every 10-15 years, so tetanus, diphteria, pertussis and polio. That is what my doctor advised me to refresh.

I was getting everything updated before a trip abroad. I knew I needed an updated tetanus, but wasn't aware of the others needing refreshers as well. My doc said to refresh all, and he had the shot on hand, so I did.

Re: Diptheria/Tetanus/Polio vaccine

Went for second shot of an other vaccination today and they had the 'tetanus, diphteria, pertussis and polio'-stuff on stock again. So got it all in one go

Anyway - it's available again. Even in canton Zurich.
