Re: School vacations for 3-4 months

yes, the language could lead to some complications. I guess it also may depend on which age the child is - keep in mind a "Lernziel" for kindergarten is that the child can hold a pair of scissors properly...

Re: School vacations for 3-4 months

Keepsmiling, you don't give your son's age.

Does he speak German fluently? If not- the school, and in fact the Gemeinde and tax payer, will be spending a lot of money, time and effort, including extra staffing, to ensure your child acquires German, so he can keep up with the syllabus. Taking him away for 3 months would seriously affect this.

What about your permit? Have you ckecked how you leaving for 3 months could affect this.

Why is OP's post sounding in my ears like "how do I make sure my son has to repeat the grade he's currently in?"

I thought that too, but at face value maybe she simply wants some extra time with him before the new baby arrives and the family dynamic changes. Either that or wants time after baby arrives to help him adjust to the new arrival.

I hope she's at least thought of how to continue his studies so he doesn't fall behind, otherwise it could well be a recipe to repeat a year.
