blood tests in St Gallen

Hi,

I'm used to have blood tests regularly, just because I'm a bit of a health freak....but where can I do blood tests in St Gallen?

Thank you!

For fun or because you need them? When you need them, go to a GP. No idea if you can do it for fun, maybe pharmacies?

Re: blood tests in St Gallen

yes, you could say it's "for fun". I don't have any health problems, I just like to be on top of my health. I was never sent by a GP to do tests.

Re: blood tests in St Gallen

I guess it will be quite an expensive hobby if you get the full range of tests done regularly in Switzerland without a doctor ordering them.

Re: blood tests in St Gallen

ah no, ofc I don't get the full range. Here I can order some packages, for example something for active people called "Sport Check" or Sport "Check + " which are around 100-130 pounds.

Re: blood tests in St Gallen

Well, you can donate blood here. You can go two times a week plus follow the mobile action once a week plus the first Saturday a week.
So lots of fun and others profit from your hobby as well.
And of course your blood will be tested.

Re: blood tests in St Gallen

And what good do you think it does, having regular blood checks when you're perfectly healthy?

I doubt you'll find anything similar here, but I'd expect around CHF300 for equivalent if it exists.

Well, it depends how active and diversified OP's life is but it does make sense to have regular blood-tests done for some.

Re: blood tests in St Gallen

thanks, but let me clarify it's for STDs it's mainly for performance reasons, I like to go to the gym and monitor my performance. I'll try the donation thing. what about actual clinics?

also, is there a "thank you" button or something like that?

Re: blood tests in St Gallen

I have a blood test every year to check, cholesterol, prostate, thyroid and a dozen other things. My GP does it, or his assistant. The cost is about CHF150.-.

It is recommended for everyone over 65...

Re: blood tests in St Gallen

I don't know St Gallen, but if you can get to Zürich, here is a walk-in option that does not require a doctor's order:

http://www.medica-labor.ch/index.php/drop-in.html

Call and ask if they do the analysis you want and for prices.

The OP lives (or has lived and simply forgotten to update his location) in London, and probably for longer than six months. Doesn't that exclude him from simply donating blood in Switzerland?????

My doctor ordered a fairly extensive range of blood tests done a few months ago and the bill was 145 francs. It should possible for the OP to get an appointment at his local test centre or hospital without a doctor's prescription if he's prepared to pay.
STD tests can be done at the local hospital, they'll have a specific clinic.

Not until you've made 10 posts on the forum, then the Thanks/Groan buttons will appear.

@Anjela yes, I've lived in the UK for a few years. Does that mean I can't donate blood there? why?

so, from what I understand I should register for a GP?

Because of CJD

Re: blood tests in St Gallen

Here are the criteria for giving blood:

http://www.blutspende.ch/de/blutspen...n_blut_spenden

Note that among the exclusions are those who spent more than 6 months in the UK between 1980 and 1996 due to risk of vCJD.

Here's a list of places in and around that might fit the bill.

The one at the bottom is in St Gallen. Dr Weber. CHF 120.-
