Low-fat diet could kill you, major study shows

More good news, keep eating meat!

The Lancet study of 135,000 adults found those who cut back on fats had far shorter lives than those enjoying plenty of butter, cheese and meats.

Even if they said you'd have a shorter life eating fat, it has got to be a thumbs up for a more delicious life.

Your link shows it's more the increase in sugars and other simple carbs that's the problem.

There seems to be an increase in the number of low-fat (but high sugar) products here compared with what there used to be.
I guess we'll see an increase in obesity and decreased longevity as a result over the next few years.

yep, did that for about 12 months, damn hard to be honest, but lost significant amounts of fat, but muscle building was a no-go, felt pretty sour for days after the gym. Now I am on a targeted carb cycling and i get the benefits of keto, but still consume carbs around the workouts. Its probably the best of both worlds.

Fundamentally any diet where you cut something out or significantly reduce something is flawed because unless you are prepared to stick to that regimen for life pretty much as soon as you go back to a regular diet the pounds will comeback.

It's not quite as simple as calories in versus calories out but not far off you need to have a balanced diet from all food groups fat carbs protein etc. Cutting something out basically means the body has to create it from something else. The prime example being sugar and the myth that cancer feeds on sugar, that in itself is correct but not the whole story your whole body feeds on sugar so cutting out sugar means you deprive your body of fuel lowering your ability to fight anything, however reducing sugar to daily recommended amount won't kill cancer but it may slow it down as there is no excess sugar for it to feed on.

Agreed, I see 99.9% of modern advertised diets as short-term fads designed to address our vain pursuits of fast muscle buildup and visibility (men) and fast weight loss and maintaining a low weight (women). I see both as un-natural and unhealthy, and my philosophy is that a regular balanced diet composed of as few processed foods as possible, combined with exercise, is all you need to be healthy in this life (medical conditions notwithstanding). I think everyone should aim to be as slim and healthy as their natural frame allows without forcing or stressing the body to starvation or excess in order to maintain what would otherwise be non-sustainable weights. Just be the healthiest natural you that you can be.

The fashion industry, and modern "health and lifestyle" magazines have a lot to answer for.

No, sugar is not needed to "fight" anything. Dumbed down, sugar is a monosaccharide, which is the most basic carbohydrate. Your body can break down complex carbs into basic ones, which in a simplistic way is better as it doesnt cause insulin spikes.

Actually most of what we call "sugar" in "dumbed down" form is a disacharide - sucrose.

The only way sugar consumption affects cancers is through consuming too much and becoming obese or overweight. It's the excess fat that triggers cancer and not the sugar. There is strong evidence of this.
