English speaking Psychiatrist- ADD diagnose

OK so my Hausarzt told me today that I should go to a Psychiatrist who will then send me to a Psychologist- so I don't pay (don't quote me on that, this is what I understood). My German is OK but as this is quite important and I will have to deal with specific words, I prefer an English speaking one.
Thank you.

You're in Zurich? Maybe try the psychiatry department at the university of Zurich. I've no experience with them, but that's where I would start.

Re: English speaking Psychiatrist- ADD diagnose

I have ADD myself so I know it can be hard to find the right psychiatrist. From your post I am not sure if you already have the diagnose or not. I can just say a psycholigist can't diagnose you.
The initial testing is quite simple and can be done by any doctor or psychiatrist/psychologist. I did this with a pyschiatrist in Olten. He then sent the results to the psychiatric hospital in Solothurn where I had to go for further testing. Considering that pyschiatrists all have studied medicine, I assume that especially the younger ones all should speak english. Especially those at a psychiatric hospital.
If you already have the diagnose and it's about treatment, then you also would do better with a psychiatrist instead of a psychologist because the latter are not allower to prescribe medication.
Best is to just check for a doctor/psychiatrist with ADD experience. I just called a few in my region and tried my luck. There is also this websits that has some useful infos https://adhs20plus.ch/de/

Correct. A Psychiatrist = medical doctor. The Psychiatrist establishes a diagnosis after meeting/talking/testing you (if needed), then sends you to a Psychologist (think of a prescription) for ongoing treatment of "the thing". A Psychologist is university educated but is not a doctor. Very similar to a doctor sending you to a physiotherapist if you have a sprained ankle.

The fact that the doctor establishes a diagnosis and prescribes a treatment plan it will be covered by LaMal (basic health insurance).

In fact, ideally you need both the Psychiatrist and Psychologist to speak English.

''The thing'' LOL. I found some that have good reviews and speak English (both Psychiatrist and Psychologist) so I hope I will be able to see them soon. Apparently if I go to a Psychiatrist that will send me to a Psychologist, I will not pay that much or something like that. I've never heard of such thing.

Re: English speaking Psychiatrist- ADD diagnose

The term, in German, is "delegiert" (delegated), as in: "Die Psychologin arbeitet delegiert."

This mean the psychologist's work is overseen by the psychiatrist, who is regarded as having delegated this part of his/her work to the psychologist.
This involves your having an appointment with the psychiatrist at the start of the treatment, and then periodically, typically every few months, depending on the complexity of the case.

It is also ok to approach any psychologist first, before you have found a psychiatrist. This is because many psychologists already know one or more psychiatrists through whom they regularly work "delegiert".

Some psychologists, however, choose not to work delegiert, and charge their fees directly. In these cases, the medical insurance typically pays only a part of the psychologist's bill, (such as "50%" or "75% up to a limit of Fr...) if at all, and for only a short time (such as "6 to 12 sessions", or "3 months"), or some other limits that the medical insurance sets.

Psychologists can also work "delegiert" by some other type of doctor, such as a neurologist or a G.P. (General Practitioner, = "Hausärztin" or "Hausarzt").

In all cases, the onus is on you to check the financing (= ask the doctor, ask the psychiatrist, check with your medical insurance, decide how much you are prepared to spend out of your own pocket) before you start.
