I need braces. Is it worth getting them in germany or france?

I used braces as a kid. But never used a retainer. Now i have a very mild relapse and i think i have a bite problem, a mild one. I think i should not need to use braces for more than 8 mounths....the reason i ask is because braces in switzerland are expensive. But if somebody could tell me a good orthodontist in switzerland and not very expensive maybe i could try. Im new to this forum and new in switzerland. Thanks in advance. I live in the neuchatel canton.

We care, so here's my 2p worth of advice...

As cost is the concern, if you are a UK citizen you could always go back home, otherwise I can recommend a dentist in Budapest, Hungary if interested?

I'd recommend Hungary also, the price difference pays for your whole holiday.

Re: I need braces. Is it worth getting them in germany or france?

Assuming you go to work most days, none of these suggestions are going to work.

The dentist might need to extract some teeth to make room on your jaw. Then the brace is fitted, and every 10 days or so the brace is tightened, to move the teeth to the preferred position on your jaw. This might take a year or so...

If you were born in Switzerland it is considered a birth defect, and up to the age of about 18 years old, the treatment is paid by the Swiss national invalid insurance. Any Swiss dentist can advise you.

Maybe you can find an orthodentist in Pontarlier? But you need many visits.

Re: I need braces. Is it worth getting them in germany or france?

Woooow this was fast! Thanks everyone. Well im 25 years old. And my problem is mild. I have an orthodontist in portugal. Thats were im from but i dont like flights thats why i was searching an option in switzerland, france or germany because i live in neuchatel so its not far away. If i need to go abroad i go to portugal. I dont need to get any teeth removed, like i said my case is mild. But having braces or invasilign its not a one way trip thats why i want to avoid flights.....

You are new here, so maybe a little advice is possible?

Please give as much detail in your first question as possible, then you won't be wasting people's time.

Ok thank you, but you also need to be more polite in the way you are speaking because many people will consider you rude if you just talk to them like that, "wasting people's time", thats not how it works. But don't worry about it. Just remember it next time.

Re: I need braces. Is it worth getting them in germany or france?

I have lingual braces because of a minor misalignment. Had braces as a teen, they took out the retainer way too early, the teeth shifted.

Things may go wrong so I would never do this abroad unless I literally live within 15mins of that "abroad". Coincidentally, I do, but I still prefer to do this here. Once the wire popped out from one of the braces, I'm glad I just had to walk down the street to get it fixed.

I have complementary insurance that pays up to 1000/year, but of course doesn't cover treatments abroad. Needless to say I've had that insurance for a while, long before I decided to get the braces. The total cost in my case is CHF 4000 for everything including all X-rays, check-ups and retainer. I don't find this unreasonable at all.

Btw, amongst the best money I've ever spent and one of the best decisions I've ever made.

Samaire13 thats amazing. Im really glad that you like your new teeth. As somebody who used braces before i understand what it feels like. Maybe i ask where is the location of your orthodontist, and your occlusion was good before? Because i believe my occlusion its not good because my orthodontist in portugual told me that i need an adjust, only the two front bottom teeth shift, the rest is good. And if lingual braces can correct my occlusion and teeth for only 4000 CHF it would be amazing.

Yes I'm superhappy. It took only a month and my teeth were a perfect straight line. I had (and still have) the braces, as of course it needs to be stabilized. But I'll have them removed in about two months. The lingual version is great, nobody noticed anything and while I had a slight lisp for the first week, you quickly learn to readjust your speaking and now I often forget I even have the braces. Nobody noticed the lisp either btw unless I pointed it out.

I will send you my orthodontist's details in a PM later. She's not in the Neuchatel area but near Basel, but maybe that's an option for you as well. Have zero complaints about her, quite the opposite
