Normal physio session duration

I got an appointment with a physio for a session and realised that the duration is only 30 minutes. Is that normal?

Anyone with other experiences or similar welcome :)

Sounds about right. What kind of rehab is it for?

In my experience here they usually they give you a load of exercises to do in your own time and the 30 mins is just to practice them and check on progress.

If it helps, my physio appointments in the UK were about the same and followed the same format, and that was on the good old NHS.

Ah ok, cos in Belgium, I used to get around 45-50 min. This is just standard rehab with some sport specific stuff thrown in for my back

I can confirm that. I had a knee injury and got 30 minute physio sessions once a week with outside exercise thrown in

If you google they all (well I stopped googling after a while :D) say 20 to 30 minutes.

I did google but wanted some real life quotes as well. :D

Yes that's the normal "unit".

Sometimes for more intensive work they would recommend an hour - which of course costs twice as much...

Yes, it's normal.

Yes 30 minutes is absolutely normal here. I have just finished a very long series of physio for my shoulder and it was 30 minutes once, twice or three times a week depending on the stage I was at in my recovery with extra exercises to do at home.

I only ever had 30 minute sessions in Belgium too.

Okay, real life quote (but you'll be jealous ;))

I've known 'my physio-guy' for years by now. I don't need to go see him often but when I do I get 45 minutes to an hour.
He likes me :msnblush: so I guess in the end the general real life quote is according to my google results: 30 minutes. I also think - not sure - it's what they are allowed to charge the health insurance.

Another experience of 30 mins here. Honestly, after that time I want to get the heck out of there anyway!:p

Physiotherapy, like other medical treatments, has more than one tariff number depending on what must be done, for example, there is a special tariff number for lymph drainage.

As far as I know, the standard physio is for 30 minutes, and the lymph drainage is for 30 minutes. Perhaps there are some others that are 15 or 45 minutes.

The physiotherapist allocates the appointments, and sets their length, frequency and number depending on
a) what/why the doctor prescribed and
b) the rules about what the medical insurance must cover.

I think mine lasted for 45 minutes.
Was a while ago, though.

But I came in early and added 20-ish minutes of cardio on top of it and came in twice a week on my own to practice.

So, yes, it doesn't really matter that much. The key is practicing for yourself more often than you go to physio
