Re: A perennial EF favourite: smoking ban in SBB

All employees, including those working for the CFF, deserve to work in a smoke free environment. This includes the platforms and adjacent public areas.

Wonder how many employees smoke.
Not much service if they have to leave the premises for a smoke-break

Any employee of any company should take their smoke break out of sight, it gives pretty poor impression of the company. I tried to explain it to the day-care staff for years, walking in your kid's day-care struggling to inhale does not advertize their place too well.

LOL, that's gonna be a whole new subject. Looking forward to it. Employers will have have a hard time finding employees ....... oh hang on, there probably won't be many employers left either.

Anyway, still a long way to that round. More important things to get rid of before that: Smokers, meat-eaters, foreigners, postmen not ringing the bell, Migros, Coop and all their incompetent subsidiaries, Swiss craftsmen wanting to make a living (bastards), import-fees ..... sorry, Tom, your asshole-initiative will have to wait. And let's face it: SVP will not be able to launch that one

Let's face it, some people are just like that. They tell their spouse "I really love you but you have to change ....... 50-page list here .....
They do that with everything. When a departure ..... sorry a divorce .... would be so much easier and so much more effective.

Standing at Nyon station now, pretty busy and I actually don’t see anybody smoking! Very unusual.

The signs seem to be working.

Now we can really benefit from the smell of the brakes.. oh and the coffee and croissants.

Everyone around here who smokes does as good a job as anyone else. And they know how to manage their time.

The move was spearheaded by the leader of the Freedom Party, Austria's Vice Chancellor Heinz-Christian Strache, himself a smoker, who told parliament last month that it was about freedom of choice.
That's great, a drug-addict spearheading a campaign to keep his drug normalised.

It's not about freedom of choice at all. He just wants to satisfy his own selfish requirements.

What on earth are you trying to say with your 'LOL'?

This is what Dr Manfred Neuberger, professor emeritus at the Medical University of Vienna said in the same article:

Quote:
It is "a public health disaster".

"The decision is irresponsible. It was a victory for the tobacco industry. The new government made Austria into the ashtray of Europe."

Austria already has "shamefully high" smoking rates among young people, "particularly compared to other high income countries".
So Curley, please explain why you place greater credence in my what a smoking politician says rather than an eminent professor?

And as for freedom - as a Swiss person, you have no idea what the word 'freedom' means. It's not about smoking for god's sake.

Young smoke if they want to smoke. Emulating others who smoke, who are non-peers isn't really the reason why they do. They do either because they want to, or to fit in, or its peer pressure.

I can't stand the smell of perfumes. It induces nausea in me. Don't I deserve a perfume stench free environment ?

Exactly. This has been shown to be true. If they've got no one to emulate (if the smokers aren't in their face, they are less likely to start smoking).

Grow up.

Companies spend millions trying to make perfume smell as nice as possible.

Whilst you may personally not like the smell, if you managed to get your taste and smell sensors back, you'd realise that the smell of a smoker is much worse (that's you by the way).
