English/Italian speaking midwife Schlieren - Zurich canton

Can anyone recommend me an english or italian speaking midwife that can come to my home (Schlieren) after I will give birth? I will have my first child in March (due date is 12 of March). I tried to contact some from Zurich but they replied that I am not in their area so at this point I don't really know where to search

Thanks

Ligia

Ask your gyn or the hospital where you'll give birth. Most, if not all, speak at least basic English.

You can also take an antenatal weekend course in English, there are a few hospitals that offer this. You'll be able to inquire about your concerns.

Thank you very much for the answer. I started to write to some midwifes from this website: http://www.hebamme.ch/de/elt/heb/dir.cfm?md=kt&kt=zh but no positives responses yet... the ones from Zurich are telling me that I am not in their area, but on the website I don't find Schlieren.

Regarding the prenatal courses do you have any websites that you can recommend me? I will give birth to UniversitätsSpital Zürich but unfortunately they have no available seat until March, which for me is too late. I will give birth in March.

Have you looked at this?

https://www.stadt-zuerich.ch/triemli...rth-class.html
or this?
http://www.hebammenpraxis-zuerich.ch/antenatal-class/

Hurry up, it seems they still have some free places.

I'm a midwife from Australia but I don't have registration here. I just met an Italian midwife who works in the German speaking part in an online course we were doing. I will ask her if she knows anyone that would visit Schlieren. Ideally, you would have some antenatal appointments with the same midwife as it really helps you during birth and afterwards.

You're so welcome, Ligiutza! Glad I could be of some help. I know it must be completely stressful for you, first the pregnancy and then the moving. It's good to enrol in these classes not only for the structured info you'll get, but also for meeting other people like you, with the same anxities and questions. Try to be proactive now, make some contacts and connections, join a support group. I think there must be something on meetup.com or Facebook. (new moms and babies sort of thing)
Does your company organise meetings outside work? You might want to discuss about doctors and stuff with other colleagues or their partners.
Take care, dear. You will be fine, health care for pregnant women is great here. When you'll give birth, depending on the hospital, you'll be offered all sorts of aids - e.g. acupuncture, don't know anyone who accepted but hey, it's just an example. People are super OK, if you want to have epidural just say it in time, because deciding to go all "natural" long before the due date is great and dandy, but don't rule this possibility out with your doctor (I know people who did lol), wait before you get to that point.

I can confirm that anesthetists dont like coming in at 3am to put in an epidural when the expectant mother refused one at 6pm.

Sounds like you or someone you knew had a horrible experience with an uncaring anaesthetist. If they offered it at 6pm and the woman didn't want one until 3am then I would say they offered it a bit too soon and knew it Anyone working in birth for any period of time knows that we don't always choose what time our babies are born!

Hi Ligia, the Italian/German/English midwife got back to me and suggested this website. It has an 'n' in it and is a different website to what you have. She suggested you go through and contact these midwives. She works full time at a hospital and doesn't do home visits but said she may be able to do a phone consult if you can't find anyone to visit you <3

Oh, I'm sure there are cases like this, but tbh the only one woman I know who didn't get an epidural decided she wanted to have this procedure done when it was rather too late - too close to the actual delivery. She was dilated too much and apparently it didn't make sense to wait for the anaesthesiologist...in the end, if I want to be a little bit malicious, it was "all natural", as she fantesized during pregnancy...only she wasn't very happy about that. But well, lots of women around the globe still give birth like that so...such is life.
