WHERE: Schweizergasse 23, Basel (tram 1/8 to Zoo Bachletten)
AL-ANON: Self-help group helping friends/families of alcoholics

CONTACT: 0848 843 843 or www.al-anon.ch

If you have further questions, please add your note on here and I will get back to you.

FAQ:

What is Al-Anon?
We believe alcoholism is a family illness and that changed attitudes can aid recovery. Al-Anon is a self-help grou where we share our experience, strenght and hope. Al-Anon is not allied with any sect, denomination, political entity, organization, or institution, does not engage in any controversy, neither endorses or opposes any cause. There are no dues for membership. Al-Anon is self-supporting through its own voluntary contributions.

Al-Anon has but one purpose: to help families and friends of alcoholics. We do this by practiciing the Twelve Steps, by welcoming and giving comfort to families of alcoholics.

Who are the member and why are they here?
Members are all kinds of people from all walks of life: wives, husbands, lovers, sisters, brothers, children, adult children, parents of alcoholics. No matter what our relationship has been with a problem drinker, we share a common bond: we feel our lives have been deeply affected by another person's drinking. We meet together to share our experience, strength and hope and learn to lead healthier, happier lives.

How will it help me?
You will probably hear about a situation much like your own. If you don't find someone with the same set of circumstances, you may still be able to identify with the way many of us feel about the effects of alcoholism on our lives. We are all individuals striving to become the best people we can, each in our own way. That way is not the same for each of us, but there is help for everyone whose problem is alcoholism in others.

Do I have to say anything during the meeting?
If you wish to speak, please do. If you would rather sit and listen, that's all right, too. We try to listen to each other with an open midn, We also say 'take what you like and leave the rest'.

Will anyone say I've been here?
Anonymity is the spiritual foundation of our program. It provides a safe place for members to share. We use first names. We do not talk about the people we see, or repeat what we hear at meetings. We guard anonymity of all Al-Anon/AA/Alateen members.

Is this a religious fellowship?
Al-Anon/Alateen is not a religious fellowship, but you may call it a spiritual one. Members of any faith, or none at all, are welcome and we make it a point to avoid discussion of specific religious beliefs.

How does it cost?
There are no dues or fees to join a group. Most groups do pass a basket at meetings and we put in what we can afford to contribute on a voluntary basis. We use the money to pay the rent for the meeting room, to provide Al-Anon conference approved literature for the group and to support the local and global service center.

If you have further questions, please add your note on here and I will get back to you.

Best regards
Jennifer

Re: English Speaking Al-Anon Meetings in BASEL, ZUERICH and LAUSANNE

Hi,

good questions. AA (Alcoholics Anonymous) is the 'sister' group of Al-Anon and helps alcoholics is their first point of contact for recovery.

However, as most alcoholics have family members also suffering from alcoholism, therefore they also belong to Al-Anon. Our meetins are open meetings, therefore, alcoholics in recovery, i.e. attending AA meetings on a regular basis, are also welcome to join in as long as the focus of the Alanon meeting is kept on Alanon and not on issues of their substance abuse.

Pls find the meeting details in this response as I am unable to post them in the original thread for some technical reason:

BASEL:
WHEN: Sundays 6-7pm
WHERE: Schweizergasse 23, Basel (tram 1/8 to Zoo Bachletten)
AL-ANON: Self-help group helping friends/families of alcoholics
COST: Free, small donation welcome for room/literature
CONTACT: 0848 843 843 or 079/717 5200 or www.al-anon.ch
ZUERICH:
WHEN: Sundays 5-6pm
WHERE: English Catholic Church, Neptunstrasse 60, 8032 Zuerich
AL-ANON: Self-help group helping friends/families of alcoholics
COST: Free, small donation welcome for room/literature
CONTACT: 0848 843 843 or Kathrin 078/603 8969 or www.al-anon.ch
GENEVA:
AL-ANON: Self-help group helping friends/families of alcoholics
COST: Free, small donation welcome for room/literature

Thanks,

Re: English Speaking Al-Anon Meetings in BASEL, ZUERICH and LAUSANNE

Please note that the phone number for Alanon French part of Switzerland is: 0848 848 833, for the German part it is 0848 848 843. Also, Kathrin is only the contact person for the Zurich meeting. We will have to find a contact person for the meeting in Lausanne.
Kind regards
Kathrin
