Submit all claims even if not covered.

I’ve got a separate bill from the Mrs’ doctor for a medication that is not covered by the basic, or extended, insurance. Another bill covers the consultation and injection of the medicine and this is covered.

Is their any benefit to submit it anyway? ie Would it count towards the franchise and/or the CHF700 maximum co-pay? The end of year statement lists these rejected claims and I suppose their could be tax benefits if total large enough.

Or am I just wasting everyone’s time?

I submit "everything", doctor bills, pharmacy receipts. It is to their advantage to review my bills item-by-item for what is covered and not, I let them do their job.

I also submit everything. Let them sort it out and if it's not reimbursable then as you say it's on the year-end statement. That's handy to submit with taxes instead of all your other documentation (assuming you have enough medical expenses that weren't reimbursed)

Sorry to hijack - I don't have anything helpful to contribute unfortunately but your query got me thinking...

Do you mind me asking how common it is to have to pay for medicatiom/treatment that is not covered by basic or extended health insurance? Is there a list somewhere of things that have to be self-funded?

You can ask your doctor to prescribe only medication that is covered. But if you see him/her for every ouchie, there might not be one
And sometimes they explain to you, why they want to prescribe one that is not listed - then it is your decision to decide.

And here are a few ideas.

We also just submit everything.
Agree that it's the insurances job to sift-out what is covered for, regardless of coverage.

Re: Submit all claims even if not covered.

If you are an adult taking ritalin for ADD, that‘s not covered. Concerta might be.

Flu shots are not always covered, depends on your insurance model.
