Bilingual Marriage Officiant/Priest in canton Vaud

My wife and I are having a wedding ceremony for our families (we already had the legal/civil wedding) at the end of this year, and we still need to find an officiant.
We've come acorss a few non-religious officiants, but none that we really like, and we think they charge too much. Our wedding will be at the Ecumenical Institute Bossey in Vaud, she is from Rome and her family is Catholic. I was baptized Catholic (but I would not count myself among the faithful), and we're also fine with having a priest officiate the ceremony.
As my family pretty much only speaks English, we would like to have a bilingual ceremony. While the location does have a chapel (suitable for any christian denomination), we'd like to have the ceremony on the ground outside the chapel along a row of trees.

Can anyone put us in contact with a bilingual priest (ideally catholic) that is willing to celebrate a wedding in the garden?

Or can someone recommend a laque officiant that isn't going to claim that they make a personalized ceremony, and that this involved 30-50 hours of work, and then charges accordingly? (we're fine with a boilerplate ceremony from the official, we've personalized the vows, the decorations, the event etc, we just need someone to officiate)

Are you a member of any local church or have any affiliations? If not, might be good to start if you want a religious ceremony and possible future roles of the church in your life. There a number of english speaking churches in Geneva and Vaud, I would guess the priest knows enough french as well to do bilingual. Alternatively, do it the other way around and go to your local church, probably they have enough english to do it as well or maybe they can refer you. Here is the association of catholic churches in canton Vaud. http://www.cath-vd.ch, which may refer you. I know there is a catholic church in Crassier which is very close to your venue, so maybe contact them. But probably best to contact the church where you live.

Most priests and pastors will be happy to perform a ceremony that has no religious meaning, wherever you chose that to take place. Personally I'd contact the church in my vicinity and ask for directions.

You're not the first and you won't be the last with that kind of intention

We had some visitors from America a few years ago who were very religious and needed to go to church on Sunday. We sent them here: http://www.catholicchurchlausanne.org/

They said that the Irish priest was lovely and they couldn't have been happier.

It is not up to the priest, it is up to the bishop in whos diocese the place is located and if the priest is not of that diocese then it is to the bishop to grant the priest the right to conduct a public service in his diocese.

If you want a Catholic marriage then you need to get moving as there is a lot of paperwork to get. Start with the parish priest in the parish where you live as he is the one to kick it off.

If you were not born a Swiss Catholic and especially if you have lived in a couple of different places, collecting the documents can be a bit of a pain. Hint: ask for all documents in Latin to avoid the need for translation.

You say you'd like a bilingual ceremony, but you don't specify which two languages.

English is obvious, but should the other language be
- Italian since the bride's family is from Italy
- French since the wedding is taking place in canton Vaud
or perhaps even Latin since you would like a Catholic ceremony?

Not likely, since the Catholic Church does not do Latin ceremonies, without yet another special permission! Since about 1962, I think.

Now that I think about it there used to be a Tridentine sect here in Switzerland lead by some excommunicated bishop or other, have not heard of them in years - they were a bunch of old folks so probably all died out by now.

Well, the Chateau de Bossey is an "Ecumenical Institute" with its own chapel, for use by any christian faith, including catholics, and that is the backup location if the weather is bad, but otherwise we'd like it in between two rows of trees just outside the chapel.

Yea... we're not 100% set on that, we did look at some non-religious officiants, but all so far have seemed a bit too "hippy" and/or charge too much. We'd also consider non-catholic priests.

The other language would be French, since that is the first language of most of the guests -the Italian speakers, as far as I know, are limited to just her, her 2 parents, her brother, and her brother's girlfriend. With the exception of her parents, the others are equally adept or even more adept with French.

Not Catholic, but Christian, located in Nyon and speak English and French. They may have an answer for you, a contact, or more. Give them a ring.
