Re: Ritalina Price Bern Switzerland

We don't know how you are insured, if it is prescribed to you, how much of your own risk you already used (or normally use in a year)

But why would you want to get it without insurance? Next thing happening is that you save your own risk only to be unlucky to find out you also might need other care.

2 seconds on Google: https://www.adlershop.ch/p/5919/rita...0mg-200-stueck

And just call your insurance about what they pay and what they don't pay.

Re: Ritalina Price Bern Switzerland

I’m afraid that Swiss insurance does not pay for Ritalin if you are an adult. Insurance might pay for concerta, but it depends. On what, I don’t know...guess your physician has to write an explanation.

My doctor wrote a letter about Ritalin, but no dice.
I think I pay about chf 60 for 200, 10mg each. Adler charges chf 70? Huh. I checked the box. Chf 60.30.

Unlike other prescriptions, the Ritalin prescription has to be delivered by you or by post to the pharmacy. The pharmacy needs a paper copy, no fax or email.

that's really not that expensive.
it would cost a lot more in other countries.

"The cost for Ritalin oral tablet 5 mg is around $77 for a supply of 100 tablets"

America... Sigh.

And no need to buy Ritalin, the patent has expired long ago and equal alternatives can be much cheaper.

Methylphenidate is sold under many names of which Ritalin from Novartis is just one of the most known (and most expensive), just do a google for one of the hundreds of others brands under which it is sold by a wide variety of manufacturers to see which one are for sale in Switzerland.

In Switzerland? I’ve never seen nor have I been offered a generic. And Ritalin is one of those things that bringing in from another country will expose you to an enormous headache.

But did you look for it?

Quick find, so might not be the cheapest.

Nah, to be honest, I didn’t bother to do an effective search. It is about half the price, though. Still, i’ll Stick to the name brand since I know it’s effective.

Any reason other than Ritalin being a well known brand which is twice as expensive and despite the other one mentioned here being generic (thus containing an equal material)

That’s the problem. Generics can have up to 20% less of the active ingredient. For psych meds, this can create huge problems for patients.

Huh?

10 mg of methylphenidate is 10 mg of methylphenidate.

What could differ is the speed of which the active ingredient gets released into the blood, but this is hardly ever more than 20% difference (if even), and one might be sensitive due to a diff colouring or other ingredient in the filler.

If you want to save money the only option is to try them and see how they work out for you.

Many generics are effective and work well. However, not always. The approval process in the US for generics is simpler. Manufacturers have to prove bioequivalence (that it contains the same active ingredient) but not therapeutic equivalence (that it works the same).

In Switzerland, i don‘t know the approval or quality control process. And some of my drugs are generics and they work well. So yeah, it‘s worth trying, once the doctor agrees to prescribe the generic.

But you‘re wrong about one thing. 10 mg of a drug may not contain 10 mg of active ingredient because of variance in the manufacturing process. Maybe an imperceptible variance or maybe a bigger one.

.
There are also ranges for bioequivalence. It can be up to 20% less or 25% more than the patented brand.
Excipients also play a huge role in the effectiveness of generics and some people are more affected than others.

You will never know how well a generic will work until you try it but whereas I would have no hesitation in taking a generic paracetamol or such like I would be a bit more wary for things like psych meds where the consequences could be much more serious.

Not true to my knowledge. You need a psychiatrist to explain to the insurance why you need the medication and it should be fine. A 30 pack of 10 mg Ritaline is Chf 15.10; please note that all stimulant medication is heavily regulated, so go through the proper channels or risk problems with the law. A person who sells stimulants prescribed to them to a third party is also breaking the law.
