Path from separation to divorce

Hi,

I have separated now and the monthly payment for alimony that I need to pay has been agreed upon. I will ask my ex if she wants to pursue a divorce sooner but if not I will apply myself after 2 years.

At the time of separation I had no savings. However I think that I could manage to put a small amount (100-200CHF) away each month to start saving (or maybe even invest it).

My quesion is, if i do this between now and the divorce will this be considered as savings accrued during the marriage and will need to be split? Or now that the alimony is agreed I can do whatever I want with my share?

Thanks.

Re: Path from separation to divorce

Usually all the assets go into a pot and are split at the completion of the divorce (gŁtertrennung). So any savings you make now will go into the pot then.

However, you can ask for the split now, if you are legally separated, and then you'll keep any subsequent assets.
