49 Frs for 30 minutes of cleaning by a gentle canadian dental hygienist, the best price I know in Switzerland
The dental clinic is called Clinique Dentaire du Chablais, they have one in Aigle, and another in Monthey. The prices are available on their website http://www.chablais-dentaire.ch |

| | Re: Cost of dentists in Switzerland Can anyone recommend a very good Dentist in Geneva or Vaud (preferably a 30-40 years old Dentist, who is familiar with new dental materials and new technologies such as CEREC and/or BPR (Bonded Porcelain Restoration) ? It is very important that the recommended dentist would be able to communicate in English, and won't charge through the roof ! (The reason for the 30-40 years old is due to the assumption that younger Dentists can't afford the new equipment, while older dentists are used to, and are comfortable with their dental laboratories, as well as with their own outdated equipment and "multi-visit" practices) Obviously this is a sweeping statement, and I am sure there are many exceptions.... the BPR is a "one visit" procedure, it takes between 2-3 hours to fix you a perfect crown that will last for at least 10-15 years (which means no more temporary fillings & temporary ugly crowns). Unfortunately, although Switzerland is one of the world's leading nations in Medical & Dental sciences, the few Swiss dentists I called were utterly ignorant of any new technologies that were developed in the past decade, particularly new technologies for oral implants, guided tissue regeneration, and adhesive restorative dentistry. and even worse, they had absolutely no clue about bio-mimetic techniques, new clinical practices and/or advances in dental materials.

| | Re: Cost of dentists in Switzerland | Quote: | | | | | | | | | | It's a multiplication factor for the charging - each dental tast is allocated a unit of time based on how long it's likely to take, ie, drilling 4 units, injection 1 unit, etc, and then each unit is multiplied by the Tax thingie. Tax thingie can vary from, I believe, 3.3 to 4.9, so some dentists can be 50% more than others simply from the maths.
A lower Tax thingie is good, assuming the dentist is too! 3.3 is excellent.

Check with your dentist and ask him if it is necessary, then ask him for a Kostenvoranschlag/Estimate.
Good Luck

Mine was just shy under 1000 CHF for four wisdom teeth extractions, two of which were complicated (one impacted and the other deeply infecting the jaw bone). I was shocked that it was so low having read some of the horror stories!!

I learned, the hard way, to ask what the charges are for the dentist to "take a look and give a quote"..... before sitting in the chair and opening mouth.
When the first dentist discovered I was not using his services .... he sent me a bill for Sfr190. And he had not used any instruments to probe, no gloves, just looked into my mouth. His quote was for Sfr6,000.
The dentist I used in Germany quoted me Euro 1,100, with a 10% discount for cash. The "inspection" was free. And I am very very happy with the work done! I return regularly for cleaning - costing about Euro 50 (still get the 10% off!)

| | Re: Cost of dentists in Switzerland | Quote: | | | | | Do you guys know what is the normal price of teeth/dental cleaning (I think it should be Zahnsteinentfernung in German)?
I know it's expensive but it's time to do it. And do you know where is a cheap dentist in Zurich and who can do it without pain? | | | | | Dental hygienist is around 200 francs a session. Less or more, depending on the place. If you want it cheaper, ask for a "Praktikantin".
P.S. It's Dentalhygieniker(in) in German. I mean the person who's gonna perform the dental cleaning.

Lots of suggestions to go to Germany - does anyone have a particular dentist in Konstanz (or near the border, accessible by train) to recommend?
Thanks!
