On the right is where it was actually bleeding. Just above the sock line is the bruise. This was taken 4 minutes after the incident.

Not sure. Take note that "Meldung erfolgt durch Ärztin, Arzt oder Spital" so while the doc may be thankful, your effort may just as well be a waste of goodwill.
He has to fill it in himself, that's clear. But at least all the information is there for him, so he won't have to look it up.

Why? There's no rabies in Switzerland.
I saw one in the Friesenberg synagogue once.

Re: Nipped by a farm dog.

For those insisting on sending the bill to the farmer, I’d point out that, as mentioned earlier in the thread, there will be no bill. Accident insurance will cover it.

That said, even if there was a bill, it would be hard to get the farmer to pay. When my dog was attacked by another dog (well, plural), I reported it and looked into billing the guy (we had his license plates and knew exactly who it was). Unfortunately, the only way to enforce that would be through a costly civil court action, and wasn’t worth the hassle for the 800 CHF vet bill. I was told that by the vet, my (liability, not pet) insurance company, and an attorney.

Still, I’d talk to the doc and leverage their reporting channel. I’m a dog lover, and the problem is the owner not the dog - but the owner needs to feel some heat if they’re not fulfilling their responsibilities as an owner.

Apropos nothing... A small can of pepper spray costs 30CHF, though you need to show your Ausweiss as purchase is registered. But I doubt it would ever be used.

pepper spray
FYI, take a look at this article where a dog owner used pepper spray against two other dogs who were menacing his elderly blind dog (or, 'just wanting to play', according to their owner):

https://www.nzz.ch/zuerich/unheilvol...ray-ld.1306887

Although from an emotional standpoint one might sympathize with the man and expect him to be let off given the circumstances, the law does not always work that way. The man was found guilty of 'fahrlässigen Tierquälerei' and given a sentence of 10 days at CHF 50.

Seriously, there are better ways to defend yourself.

Water tossed or sprayed at the dog or popping open an umbrella often are two measures provide enough of a distraction to stop a dog running towards you. I have used both when another dog attacked my elderly handicapped dog.

You don't want to leave yourself open to charges.

Those Swiss prices.....
Try DM, €6, and I'd guess no ID required.

What happened to me is after the dog approached. It was only once it was behind me it decided I needed a nip. My wife drove it off with a well aimed rock (didn't hit the animal).

I've no desire to hurt any animal. But I would got as far as killing it without compunction if it is attacking a human, if (and only if) I deem it necessary. The law is quite entitled to afterward take a different view and fine me for my actions. I would not use pepper spray against an animal until it was actively attacking. In this incident, it would be after the first nip.

Pepper spray is better for the dog than a rock. When hiking I don't carry an umbrella, didn't have any water balloons to hand and I'm not allowed to carry a handgun.

There's no reason there shouldn't be one, perhaps with the exception of efficiency.

The holder is responsible for the dog as he obviously didn't take the necessary precautions and OP didn't provoke the dog. OP's accident incurance may well decide to cover the cost but they will claw the money back from the dog holder's his 3rd party liability insurance if he has one (Ior the holder himself, provided the cost warrants the effort.

Re: Nipped by a farm dog.

I've been told wd40 is about the best thing to stop a dog, quick blast in the face and the dog is disabled. Apparently its the favoured tool of the trade of house burglars and also comes in handy pocket size cans now too.

with the added benefit it actually comes in handy too.
