Transferring medical records

Since a few years ago I have moved to canton Vaud. Previously, I had a family doctor in Zurich. Now I am trying to find a new family doctor closer to me.

I'd like to know if it is possible to transfer my medical records to the new doctor? Should I make the request myself or this is something my new doctor will do?

Also, one thing that makes the issue more complicated is that last I checked, my previous doctor in Zurich has moved to a new practice. So now I don't know if I should contact the his practice for my medical records or if it is the doctor himself that keeps my medical records. Any ideas?

Re: Transferring medical records

I believe that your medical records belong to you. When my Dr. retired I asked his office to send my records to my new Dr. They did so without a charge.

Why not give your ex-Dr.s office a call and ask them?

When we moved from Bern to Winterthur, I just called my old practice and asked them to send everything to my new doctor's practice. I'm not sure if the records move with the doctor, but I'd call the old practice, rather than the old doctor first.
