Re: CBD oil / Snake oil ?

CBD products have disappeared from Pharmacy shelves in the Leman area. Apparently a study has shown that very few of the products actually contain what is printed on the label. Some contain no CBD, others contain more than twice the CBD mentioned.

Caveat Emptor.

Re: CBD oil / Snake oil ?

Yes, it has a psychoactive effect, but ingesting it orally doesn't give you the concentration needed to feel anything worthwhile, plus it's an expensive way to take it. Best way is to smoke high-CBD content pot which you can buy at most headshops now that it is legal in Switzerland. One or two tokes, held in, is usually all it takes. Effect: calm, reduction of anxiety, living in the moment. And no, it does not get you "high" in the sense you can carry on doing anything normal afterwards.

Seems to be thing globally, the variance on what is actually inside in the product..

I use consumerlab as my source of non bias review, good info and they found huge differences.

Plus according to these guys, most of the actual clinical studies involved huge doses, hundreds go milligrams..so the low doses available in stores, who knows.

The pharmacy says it's 38 Francs for a small tube, which is kind of a lot to just try and see.
Just buy the real stuff and make your own with fat of your choice (olive, pork, coconut, etc.)

ok, but where does one buy "the real stuff" and what sort of concentration would I be wanting? I've mixed essential oils so I assume it's similar but I know diddly about CBD oil. And what is a reasonable price?

Giving this thread a bump. My physiotherapist has recommended CBD cream for inflammation and pain. Anyone used the cream instead of oil? Does it smell bad? Does it work?

The pharmacy says it's 38 Francs for a small tube, which is kind of a lot to just try and see.
Is there a reason you don't want to use ibuprofen or diclofenac gel? I'm not aware of cbd being a particularly good anti-inflammotory, which those are.

Here. It also tell you how to make the topical creams (they recommend coconut oil, for example).

If I was going to do it those, being a skeptic, I would make two batches, one with the CBD oil and one without, and I would try each one in turn on separate occasions (but without knowing which one was which) and see if there's any difference).

There's a hell of a lot of difference between a topical application (where it doesn't enter the bloodstream) and smoking pot - where there can be harmful physical and mental side effects.

I've been taking ibuprofen in high doses daily for months now and my stomach is worn out. I have a negative reaction to diclofenac, not sure if it's an allergy or what. The doctor switched me to a different med, but the physio is a herbal/natural kind of guy and suggested CBD cream.

I figured I'd ask the EF collective wisdom for your thoughts on it before dropping a bunch of money on something that smells bad or doesn't work.

I know pharmaceuticals have strict controls whereas herbals/natural products not so much.

Personally I have never tried it (cream).. But I'm a CrossFitter, we get a lot of aches and pains and many people I know use it..

Worst case it's not gonna do any good.. Anything is worth a go for chronic pain no?

We use it as a standard, pain or no pain. It helps for all manner of things; pain and ailments, sleep, appetite stimulation, mood stabilizing, asthma and inflammation. Mrs. Traubert uses a salve for her eczema and my two cats use it (6%) for asthma and arthritis, with excellent results.

Get an oil, make sure it's a clean extract and contains the full spectrum of cannabidiols. You don't have to get it from an apothecary and can source very good products online or from a hemp-shop.

You've got nothing to lose.

For your stomach, eat more fermented foods, unpasteurized. Raw ferments will help your restore your guts.

Ibuprofen gel won't affect your stomach, although obviously wouldn't normally be used in conjunction with the oral version.

Your physio is not qualified in this area, so should be ignored. This 'must be worth a try, right?' approach to herbal or even homeopathic treatments is far too common in CH, and is the dangerous thin end of the wedge of medical ignorance that can lead to things like the anti vax nutcases. People in the medical professions should know better and really stick to evidence-based medicines.

Re: CBD oil / Snake oil ?

I find arnica massage oil to be a fantastic remedy for my severe shoulder muscle aches and pains as well as signs of early onset autoimmune triggered arthritis in my hands/elbows/shoulders. I sometimes use essential oils (heavily diluted) as well. I can’t take ibuprofen and I find Voltaren to be no more effective than my arnica/essential oil blends.

Back in the day, I smoked the proper stuff for menstrual pain and it always worked, but I stopped smoking weed when the stronger stuff became popular about 15yrs ago. These days, I still find that the comercially made frappes with cannabis take the edge off the pain. It's probably psychosomatic, but I hate taking pills.

A few months ago, we bought three different CBD creams for my OH's mum who's suffered from postherpetic neuralgia for 9yrs, and whilst they smoothed her skin they didn't reduce the pain at all.

The physio may not be qualified, academically, in this area, but probably has a vast amount of experience, gathered from treating a lot of patients who have tried a wide range of things, and after that certain trends begin to establish themselves. In fact, from that great deal of hands-on work, the physio has a perspective that a medical doctor cannot ever hope to gain.

I've often seen that this kind of input can improve the treatment given by other medical professionals, as long as the patient is reliable and transparent in transferring the info, and the doctors don't have ego problems. I saw a specialist doctor in one field who said he had little medical knowedge of CBD, yet a lot of positive experience observed and reported amongst his patients, and who recommend that I speak to the other treating doctor about it.

So yes, I think it's worth listening to the physio's professional opinion.

I am a believer of cannabis. So as to include CBD and THC too. Within as little as 3 years, it could be legalised across the country too. I recommend growing your own CBD with legal seeds. Your end product will be tastier/cleaner/cheaper.

In Switzerland, it is legal to grow your own cannabis plant, of the type that has a low THC content.
Here is a company which sells such plants to grow at home.
