Which age are we talking about? My 2 year old goes to the Krippe while I am at work, and I just pick him up on my way back home. Works pretty well, but he's still small.

If you are talking Kindergarten age, there are systems like an Hort where the children can spend the time until the parents pick them up. It depends on the school/area.

Best is to inform yourself of the possibilities in your city, as the facilities vary greatly.
There is also the option of Tagesmutter/maman de jour. A friend of mine with similar aged kids used that. Small was is there all day. Older one only before and after Kindergarten. Works perfect for them. Check out all the options! Ask your coomune /Gemeinde for a list of Tagesmutter and see if you like one.
