Do you remember if that included the price of the checkup?[/QUOTE]

No it does not. We had a checkup before during which the cavity was discovered. The Check-up costs about 65 chf. Our gemeinde gives us a check every year to cover check-up costs.

Sometimes it’s just the make up of the teeth. My sister has two kids, both brought up with healthy diets and fastidious dental hygiene. The eldest has beautiful cavity-free teeth and the younger one is peppered with fillings.

Oddly enough, this mirrors my sister and I. I had problem-free teeth and she was always getting them filled. Muhahaha!

Your child has already teeth problems. You wont get insurance.
At three years old they are generally not required to fill in the questionnaire so it shouldn’t be a problem to get dental insurance.

In my family it seems that you either have bad teeth or bad gums. Since using an electric tooth brush and interstitial brushes, I have neither (other than that I inflicted on myself by being an unhygienic oik as a boy).

Yeah, my eldest has her father's beautiful blue eyes but also his teeth apparently. If they could just choose and pick only what's best from each of us..

I clean her teeth personally twice a day just the way our dentist recommended (takes about 5 minutes). I'm a certified nutrition consultant and our family follows an organic whole food diet, low in processed foods and sugar (yes, our friends think we are food nazis) with supervised supplements. Our toddler can be picky, life is not perfect, but she keeps a reasonably healthy diet.
You do but if you have her in a creche, play group etc you can't be sure of what they're eating there..

Rubbish, depends on the age of the child, without checking, i think it is under 5 dental insurance can be obtained with no check-up

It depends on the insurer too but for a three year old there won’t be a problem.

Re: Estimate cost toddler cavities Zurich

I am only recommending as you are nearby.

Dr med Elizabeth Busam
Rudolf-Diesel Strasse 3
78224 Singen, DE

She and the staff were and have continued to be great.

Anesthesia was done by a Dr couple that travel to the various dentists and they were very nice as well. All in, we paid about EUR 650 for that, the tooth out and the dentist built up the rest of his milk teeth to look normal again as they had some decay as well.

We were hosed by a Zurich dentist that was to specialize in children when our son needed work done. CHF 800 out the door in a few visits and the only thing accomplished was teeth cleaning and finding out laughing gas wouldn't work. They billed on tariffs and had charged adult tariffs even though children have fewer teeth and less to clean, also for the multiple apprentices that got to practice cleaning on my son's teeth each time...then threw in a few charges for Besprechung of CHF 90 after each appointment. I have truly never felt so screwed over in my life and before anyone gets on their high-horse about asking for prices ahead...I did and were given their tariff rates which if properly applied would total CHF 300. The appts were only a week apart, so the whole cleaning thing was bollocks after the first time as well as being billed for multiple apprentices per appt.

After that and their quote for CHF 2k plus for anesthesia to pull a milk tooth, we went to a dentist recommended by a colleague that lives in Singen.

Parent asks about the cost of filling child's cavity and all the self-righteous parents are out in force questioning their certifications and the family's nutritional habits.

That sounds an awful lot like what I went through on my first (and last) dentist experience in Switzerland, but that's a subject for another thread. Singen is indeed nearby and sounds like a great alternative, thank you very much for the referral.

Sometimes even if I had a question I'd like to ask here I simply refrain from doing it knowing exactly the kind if replies I'd inevitably end up to deal with...
But it's OK, some people do care.

Did you have really have nothing better to do than to dig up information to try to belittle someone?

You must be the perfect parent and have perfect qualifications/certifications in every area possible.

This is quite irritating indeed no idea how that would be relevant to my question and I really do not have the time or energy to dedicate to this.

Thanks everyone who actually offered helpful advice, will be not reading notifications on this thread anymore.

Starting price of around 140 for a tooth filling. Then comes xrays etc etc. Should be around 200 a tooth all up

Just to give another perspective... sometimes things are not what they seem.

My second child had this same issue and he was treated same as older sibling as for brushing, healthy food, etc... It more or less gutted me the toddler years when he had cavity after cavity and suffered quite a lot going to dentist all the time. I had a gut feeling something did not add up. Sure enough a few years later a new dentist diagnosed him right away with a genetic defect of the enamel whereby it does not protect and gives rise to easy cavities. Not an easy fix, nor no cure, but good to have diagnosis for future and extra preventative cleanings etc.

As for the original question, I don't remember the cost bring too bad, about 150-200chf per tooth. It was more important to me to find a sympathetic pediatric dentist who would minimise the not do easy experience for a young child.
