Estimate cost toddler cavities Zurich

Hi everyone,

So our 3 year old has two cavities on her front teeth. Our usual dentist (abroad) said everything else is fine but didn't want to treat her during her first visit. Does anyone know roughly how much we would have to fork out to get her treated in Zurich?

Re: Estimate cost toddler cavities Zurich

Quite a few of the dentists here, clearly state costs on their websites, and will happily provide a quote for treatment before it begins, such as this one...

https://www.zurichdental.ch/en/kondi...1#preiskonzept

Just do a Google search for 'zurich dental price' and you will find lots of clear information.

Re: Estimate cost toddler cavities Zurich

In Zurich all 3 yr olds get an invitation for a free checkup to the school dentist clinic which obviously is specialized in kids. As it is in a way a social institution i reckon they are not up for maximizing profits - maybe you could make an appointment there for a checkup and follow up treatment? As your profile mentions you are in Schaffhausen maybe you have a similar clinic there? https://www.stadt-zuerich.ch/ssd/de/...kliniken1.html

I'm confused: 3 year olds don't have school yet. Kindergarten in Zürich starts at 4-5 years. My 3 year old has never received an invitation to a free checkup. So, which tree do I need to be barking?

Re: Estimate cost toddler cavities Zurich

This says they started to invite 2-3 yr olds in 2010 because a first checkup in kindergarten is too late for some: https://www.stadt-zuerich.ch/ssd/de/...aehrigen1.html

We got this information booklet and invitation to make an appointment not that long after my daughter turned 2.

We received info for this, too, when my son was still pre-school.

By the time I got my arse in gear to make an appointment he was already IN Kindergarten but I can't blame them for that...

Haha it took me also almost a year. But it was great, the dentist was extremely nice and it’s a good age to get them used to it!

Re: Estimate cost toddler cavities Zurich

If I remember correctly, it cost about 150 CHF to fill my 7 year old's tooth cavity.

We payed about the same a while ago. It's not very expensive for small kids. I was more (understatement) upset that she managed to have one, luckily is just a milk tooth.

That's cool! I haven't heard of anything similar in Kanton Schaffhausen. I will definitely ask, but in my experience this type of benefits are not available here (although we do pay more taxes).

I know! It's so upsetting! We were in total disbelief that despite all the care (read: daily tooth brushing drama) and reasonably healthy diet those cavities just "materialized" in front of our eyes.

Do you remember if that included the price of the checkup?

BEST ADVICE EVER....BUY DENTAL HEALTH INSURANCE BEFORE THE AGE CUT OFF ! Ask your insurance company!

If your three year old has cavities on her front tetth, there may be more. Go to a qualified Pedodontist.

I'm a bit surprised. A 3-year old with cavities? My kids didn't get need any fillings until they were in their teens.

Sometimes it’s just the make up of the teeth. My sister has two kids, both brought up with healthy diets and fastidious dental hygiene. The eldest has beautiful cavity-free teeth and the younger one is peppered with fillings.

Oddly enough, this mirrors my sister and I. I had problem-free teeth and she was always getting them filled. Muhahaha!

3 year old with holes in the teeth. Something wrong there. What does he/she eat? Do you supervise the teeth cleaning?

Thank you Susan! We will look into it. Yes, I was also worried about that but she was checked a few weeks ago by our usual dentist who cleared her except for the front teeth. She just wanted to keep a positive experience for the little one on her first visit and didn't want to fix them until a later appointment. The thing is that our dentist is abroad and we want them fixed ASAP, so most likely that dental insurance will indeed come in handy.

Your child has already teeth problems. You wont get insurance.

Exactly the same as my brother and I. I think he probably has more filling than tooth by now.

I think some children are more predisposed to tooth decay than others regardless of what they eat or how often they brush.

My almost 20 year old still hasn’t needed a filling but there are lots of reasons for tooth decay in kids.

Might be. But what you eat has a great influence-all this crap food around full with sugar

I clean her teeth personally twice a day just the way our dentist recommended (takes about 5 minutes). I'm a certified nutrition consultant and our family follows an organic whole food diet, low in processed foods and sugar (yes, our friends think we are food nazis) with supervised supplements. Our toddler can be picky, life is not perfect, but she keeps a reasonably healthy diet.
