Divorce lawyer fees - is this reasonable?

My husband and I sadly have separated and we have signed a separation agreement, which we drew up ourselves.

I saw a divorce lawyer for some advice before signing the agreement, for a 45 minute meeting.

Then I emailed her to tell her I had found a new flat, and I wanted her opinion on the separation agreement before I signed the tenancy agreement during the following week.

She took 7 days to email me back, in which time I had to sign the separation agreement as the lettings agent would not rent the flat to me without it.

When I received her email 7 days after mine, she said she thought my ex should pay me more every month (with no specific details about this). This advice was no good to me as the separation agreement is binding, and I am not willing to go to court over it as it would not help our children or trying to have an amicable relationship.

Now I have received a bill for 737CHF from the lawyer. She works this out as 300CHF an hour - 45 minutes for the meeting, then an hour and 15 minutes preparing the email that was too late, another 20 minutes preparing an email to ask me if I was going to reply to her email and if I needed anything further, and 20 minutes preparing an email with my bill! Is this reasonable? Can lawyers charge you for the time they spend putting a bill together? Her advice was no good to me at all, other than to teach me it is better to avoid lawyers all together and try to work things out amicably with my ex.

Re: Divorce lawyer fees - is this reasonable?

Chf 300.--/hour for a lawyer is fairly cheap.....

Agreed. That is a very reasonable fee.

I would treat it as lesson learned and move on.

In future if there is a time pressure, set a deadline before agreeing.

And last I knew there was no deadline or pressure for signing a separation agreement, this is something to be carefully read through before signing.

Looks to me like you have been Switzerlanded. I would not pay that moron anything and report him to the bar association.
Once a week there is a free legal advise session at the local bar association. See what they say.

Btw, you owe me now for this advice. How would you like to pay me?

Re: Divorce lawyer fees - is this reasonable?

Although questionable, you are better off paying. Imagine that a lawyer starts a betreibung / poursuite against you.

Looking at the big picture, still if your legal fees for your divorce only amount up this sum, consider yourself VERY lucky. If you and your ex are both happy with the agreement, keep it this way.

Naturally, any lawyer will tell you you can get more out of it. Question is of course, if the lawyer refers to you or themselves.

Re: Divorce lawyer fees - is this reasonable?

Is it really normal to apply a lawyers hourly fee, pro rata, to preparing an invoice?

I have not seen that before.
