Wisdom teeth removal - doctor recommendation/ actual prices?

I might need to get my wisdom teeth removed.
And will need X-ray first
Has anyone done it recently so I can have an idea of the prices ? ( there is a post already but from 2016)
A doctor recommendation in the Schaffhausen or Zürich area would also be very useful.
Thanks in advance !

This guy did the upper wisdom tooth for me - more complicated as you end up with a perforation in the sinus. I recall bill was into the thousands and it bloody hurt for weeks afterwards.

If I were you I'd make an appointment in Konstanz. (unless money is of little to no concern)

I go to Hafner & Grosse in Jestetten, not far from Schaffhausen. Maybe an idea to check what it costs there

I second that. (Was there yesterday!)

If you are looking for a budget procedure, however, he will probably not be your best bet!

Me too, however, I had all four done, all four were impacted and literally on their side! Mine was done under general by a facial surgeon!

The prices mainly depend on the actual situation. Asking how much the removal of a wisdom tooth costs is like asking how much repairing a car costs.

Re: Wisdom teeth removal - doctor recommendation/ actual prices?

Let me ask the question in another way. Could this be a situation (impacted teeth, potential nasal cavity issues, etc. etc.) where the work is done in a hospital by a maxillo-facial surgeon? If so, it might be covered by LaMal with just your yearly deductible.

Worth asking your GP.

Yes I also had a general. After I got an infection in the cheek. Did not respond to antibiotics and they had to cut the infection out and with it a piece of my cheek. I would say shitty hospital work.

I had an upper molar removed recently for 450CHF at a Zahnarztzentrum

Implants are generally several thousand. You might consider going to eastern europe.

I kind of enjoyed the last one being removed. I was like, this is the last time in my life this will happen to me so I should fully enjoy the experience. Like with a tear in my eyes, I am now old, bye bye sweet youth etc etc

I had all of them out under just local anesthetic which was totally fine and pain free. There is lots of poking and gruesome noises but no pain (the last two were cut and broken in half, before being pulled out). This was by dr Mettler who I recommended in the fourth post.

The dentists work with a point system. Every procedure has a set amoint of points, the same for all dentists. Like a full cleaning by hygenist is 40 points (if i remember correctly). Where they differ is how much chf they ask per point.. Mine is at 4.10 if Im correct.

You can kind of compare dentist prices by checking how much they charge per point. But then you still have differences where one will give you one injection (x points) but a different dentist will give you 2 (and charge 2 x points) for the same procedure.

The explanation of the tariff point system is basically correct, but the rest is wrong, although it is believed by many and often spread by journalists. First of all, the new tariff, introduced on January 1st, 2019, has a basis tax point value of CHF 1.00 (compared to CHF 3.20 of 1984,which was the basis of the old tariff, your 4.10).

But that's not what really makes the big differences. Removing a wisdom tooth may be an ordinary extraction (somewhere around CHF 50.00), but that's not always the case (just like repairing a car is not always just replacing a spark plug). It can be something that involves surgically removing soft tissue or even bone, costing up to CHF 500, paraphernalia not included.

The difference of the charge per point may sum up to somewhere between 10 and 25% of the total amount, the details of the case, however, can easily make a difference of several hundred, sometime more than 1000%.

Re: Wisdom teeth removal - doctor recommendation/ actual prices?

A couple of years ago I had a wisdom tooth removed. My dentist gave me a choice, either a root-canal treatment, costing well over a 1000 CHFs or extraction of a tooth that wasn't much use anyway at about 350 CHFs, which is approximately what was billed.
Local anaesthetic, not pleasant, but little or no pain during the operation. He gave me a prescription for 1000 mg ibuprofen and told me to get them at once as I would probably need them in a couple of hours, which was indeed the case. I had a perforation of the sinus, which he stitched up.
