At present, I know two people who are struggling at the opposite extreme of what you mention, feeling their lives to be useless and their worth as less than zero, and that they're a waste of space and have no right to the air they breathe, etc., so I suppose that's why the other end of the scale, as you describe it, just hadn't occurred to me.
Of course, that’s the other extreme and equally bad.

Best is to just accept our averageness or mediocrity and stop looking for extraordinary meaning in something that, quite frankly, has limited meaning - again in the big scheme of things. Doesn’t mean you can’t create meaning in the little things and for yourself of course.
