Nose surgery septoplasty

Hi all.

Has anyone had a nose surgery (septoplasty) here in Switzerland and knows around how much it would cost? Is it at least partially covered by the insurance company or how does in general insurance work with surgeries?

Thanks

Re: Nose surgery septoplasty

Had it, just not in CH.

My experience is that if your doctor recommends it, you will only have to pay the regular "Selbstbehalt"

Medical reason = Insured
Cosmetical reason = Your own bank account.

Re: Nose surgery septoplasty

My nasal septum is deviated and this prevents me from breathing normally. I have gone to a doctor before who advised surgery (but not here in Switzerland), that's why I was asking.
Thanks for your replies.

If you can get a Swiss doc to agree to the diagnosis and treatment then it will be the insurance who pays.

Re: Nose surgery septoplasty

I just had it at the and of July

My nose was broken a few times years ago, teenage fun I had gone to the doctor because I snored so bad and was always blocked, I breathed through my mouth 90% of the time.. Doctor also checked me for sleep apnea and found that I had that too. Likely related. etc etc

So went to an ORL (in these french parts) . I had a few consultations with cameras up the nose etc then general anethseic in the local hospital, in and out same day, couple more check ups.. All done now and it's great. I can breath again and don't snore!

I will do the sleep anpea check again next month but on the surface it's been a great success.

Have not seen the hospital bill yet but it was only around 700chf for the consultations, insurance paid. I assume hospital bill will be ~5k and I assume that the insurance will also pay that.

I had it here after a road accident. I have to say, it is one of the most uncomfortable convalescences one could imagine, but in the end it was certainly worth it.

Ideally, it is caused by an accident, then it is fully covered by your accident insurance (probably through your employer).

First 24 hours were grim indeed.. nose packed, blood seeping out, quite sore. When the packing came out it wasn't too bad.. Then I got the 'silicone supports' out a week later.. Jeeeeze, i couldn't see or feel them, i was expecting some tiny little piece of plastic.. Then he reached deep inside, cut out some stitches and pulled out a thing like the insole of a shoe, it felt like it was coming from my lungs.
Wow it felt great ..

LOL yeah I know the feeling I had about 20 years ago some bone scraped away somewhere inside my head on the back of my nose, and when they said "now we are taking the tampons out" I pictured something like my wife uses and wasn't worried at all. It however felt like he pulled my brains out and each tampon was about 50 centimetres long. (don't even want to know with what violence they stuffed that thing in)

Re: Nose surgery septoplasty

Wow, thanks guys for the detailed procedure, now I'm scared to go to the doctor. I'm already in so much pain just imagining it, and I didn't even have the surgery

My feeling was not pain but a weird strange sensation, I myself never had any pain, not even in the first days after the operation.

Agree .. It was a lot more uncomfortable than painful and the worst was the first day while the packing was in. I had no big swelling or black eyes.

The reward is worth it for me at least.

Haha, I had the full panda look afterwards

The two metal support tubes coming out was pretty awful I have to say, and my God they were long - who knew I had that much empty space in my head (do your own jokes!).

I'm sure it will go much better for them. Best to be prepared for the worst and surprised when it isn't all that arduous

Re: Nose surgery septoplasty

Hi all, I'm considering to do the deviated septum surgery in Basel and I wanted to ask if anyone has done it here and can recommend any clinic?

How much does it cost in Basel/Switzerland? I saw in previous posts someone mentioned they were expecting it to be ~5k CHF, but was this indeed the price?

I totally don't understand why it's so hard to find here any prices on the clinics websites..
Thanks in advance!
