Saxenda injections (Liraglutide).... looking for your experiences

My endocrinologist wants to prescribe me this medication additionally, to already existing dietary restrictions/existing dietary plan, to help me limit(slow down or, preferably stop entirely the continuous weight gain due to severe Hashimoto, illness (which I got since more than 20 yrs)

I have read and studied the clinical information available about it and am
in two minds whether to use the medicine or not. From what I learnt, side effects are common and can be serious.......

I wonder if anyone on the forum has used/been prescribed this medication (btw, no prob about the injections, am ex-nursing staff)

Personal experience? Pros and Cons? Did you experience side effects?

Thanks bunches and heaps for your input

Re: Saxenda injections (Liraglutide).... looking for your experiences

Hi
I used it for about a year and a half without any issues. Helped me lose weight, and I have now been off it for 5 months and gained again. I would like to start with it again and looking for an open minded doctor to support.

I stopped the injections, they didn't help at all, in 5 months.... I lost only 1.8kilogram. And yes with supervision from a nutritionist. Add to that that, despite my size I am quite active physically and have a Labrador that needs her walkies too. So for me it was just an expensive life lesson, because health insurance is not covering the cost of it!

what sort of diet do you have ?

my brother had/has hashimotos and his was exacerbated by a soya milk product that had too much iodine. He was eating mostly plant based with lots of seafood, and also taking a vitamin supplement with iodine.

Basically, when he finally saw the endocrinologist after trying all sorts of 'alternative' options, the endo recommended a very low iodine diet.

On the other hand, idodine deficiency can also cause hypothyroid, so it really needs a careful investigation.

he lost all the excess weight when he switched to a mostly fruit, rice and vegan diet... but I'm not sure long-term if it's the world's healthiest diet either.

I would also do a screen for coeliac disease.
