Truck with 240.000 Mouth masks forbidden by Germany to cross border into Switzerland.

Germany has since last Wednesday forbidden to export medical protection materials. Switzerland will make an official protest in an attempt to get the materials delivered into Switzerland. The masks where made by a Swiss firm but produced in Germany. Switzerland has no production of mouth masks within its borders.

If all of this is over some things really need to change..
That is so ridiculous...... the German authorities should be ashamed......

We may not have enough masks, but we'll still have our coffee!

Yup, but each on their own currently.

Switzerland better looks for ways to start producing some things ourselves on as short term as possible, we should be able to offer somebody a truckload of cash to buy up a production line somewhere and fly it in.

Do you (or anyone) have a link about this -- about the masks being seized at the border? I wasn't able to find anything about it online, but I was only able to do a Google search in English.

In comparison to population size, Switzerland seems to have a lot of confirmed cases. I wonder if this has a direct correlation with population density or possibly even lack of hygiene standards in public places.
Possibly proximity to Italy and the large early reservoir of cases there?

If the Swiss authorities have stopped testing...
Where is this idea coming from? I can't see a single mention of anything like that in Swiss sources...actually Switzerland would be one of the last countries I would see doing something like that for a new illness. With Covid 19 they're trying to stop the spread of something to which no-one in Switzerland has immunity (OK, technically 3 people have) and which has the potential to kill maybe 50,000 people in Switzerland

The situation for flu is completely different - as a doctor friend said to me, what difference does it make if you have a mild flu or bad cold - unless there are complications there's nothing you or they can do about it anyway. Even in a bad flu epidemic the number killed will be rather in the 100s.

Switzerland has not stopped testing, however they have restricted what groups will be tested. Basically only if you are high risk and show symptoms or show severe symptoms you'll be tested. The rest of the people is expected to just stay at home and sit it out.

It has been mentioned in many places however news is coming in so fast that stuff gets buried under loads of new articles and updates.

Re: Coronavirus

Health insurers and government in Switzerland arguing who has to pay for the tests.

We have laws for epidemic situations that state that the Cantons are responsible for financing the tests, however the federal government has taken on a ruling that the insurers have to pay now.

Insurers also argue that due to own risk people might avoid testing.

(I thought I read somewhere some days ago that a test would be about 1.200,- Chf but am not fully certain about this, so that might be wrong)

I thought they said 180chf but I might be wrong too.

https://www.bag.admin.ch/bag/fr/home...-id-78335.html

Actually it says they will reimburse 180chf for the cost of the test, it’s not clear if that is the total cost of the test however,

So borders need to remain open for the people to spread the virus but those same borders will be closed for supplies that would help tackle the virus those people bring in. Freaking brilliant, thanks for the southern neighbor for demanding borders remain open so that virus comes in and thanks for the northern neighbor to ensure it will f us up by stopping protective supplies coming in. Brilliant, just brilliant.

Switzerland is NOT in the European Single market. That was our choice, not Europe’s.

I know the 180,- has been named as the amount which would be refunded by the health insurer. However every testing positive on the 1st test will get a second test and I do not know if the 180,- is only what is refunded or the actual cost.

Oh and I just recall where I read the 1.200,- something that was America. Where a test costed 3.270,- of which insurance refunded a part leaving 1.400,- for the person to pay. (But American health care system cannot be compared it simply has run wild on costs and is ridiculous)

This has nothing to do with being in the European single market or not.

Well, I think it does. It means that we have entry/exit border controls on goods. Something that doesn’t exist between Germany and France for example.

However if we just stop testing. like in CH or don't bother testing like USA .. Then there is no research .. We just accept that x amount of people are sick with something, we might test some of them who end up really sick or dead but we have no clue on real numbers.

Or we just accept the numbers and research from China, Iran, Italy .
Agree. The numbers now being reported in CH are based on the usual algorithm used to report seasonal flu cases, with a factor in-line with the current severity.
So it’s really down to the common sense of all and everyone, to prevent the spread.
