I thought standard reporting procedure on here was to "have a friend" or "know someone" whose predicament/experience/situation fits nicely with the thread...

I claim that glory .. I think I have it.

I was at a popular VD ski resort last weekend, Sat morning I was in a sport shop buying a new helmet at the same time as around 100 (two coach loads) Chinese people were in hiring ski equipment, the shop was packed!! We were in same restos and bars etc at various points.

Since Sun/Mon I've had a crappy cold ..

Do I win?

I think the winner will be someone that doesn't post for a few days because of being isolated in a hospital and connected to a breathing support machine

Re: Coronavirus

update:
Singapore closes borders to all Chinese travellers to stem spread of coronavirus
link1

link2

- there have been many updates, changes since i last posted, here are the main ones i experienced
- all shops have sold out of masks and hand sanitizer here
- my parents told me HK is worse. for example my mum cannot send me any masks as the government workers are off work so no postal services in and out (so i cannot send things either)
- my hk friends with adult masks do not have any kid size ones for their kids. i will try to bring some over when i go to HK in a few weeks.
- most ppl here are asked to work fm home as much as possible
- the mood is ok, of course CNY mood is really dampened now. but in light of those in wuhan and china, it's much worse.
- i wear a mask on public transport as do many ppl but i don't wear it everywhere. just crowded areas.

Re: Coronavirus

Kinda wrong how you claim "closes borders to all Chinese travellers" and then the first picture clearly says it's only from people origin in Wuhan or having travelled there recently.

The info has now been updated :
Singapore has decided to close border to all tourists from China now (see above links)

"New visitors with travel history in mainland China or with PRC passports
5. From 1 February 2020, 2359h, all new visitors with recent travel history to mainland China within the last 14 days will not be allowed entry into Singapore, or to transit through Singapore."
link

The pic was one from a few days ago. The situation changes daily with so many updates. The pic was just to show an example of what info we have been receiving. (for the OP who used to live here too)
guess I didn't see how the info updated since a few days ago (I deleted the old pics)

It appears it managed to make it before Brexit, I don't think it'll be able to get pre settled status though.
Let's hope Johnson, and party can move it out quickly.

Re: Coronavirus

I remember the swine flu thing a few years back, because my hairdresser got married in Mexico. She was having a big hotel reception in Scotland a couple of weeks after she got back, but people kept emailing her to say they couldn't attend and she ended up with about 10 folk there.

Swine fever is actually currently (and for the last year already) another example where they as usual completely failed to contain a disease, but this fever did run wild and China lost almost half of the worlds pig population.

Re: Coronavirus

To me, there is an important, or few important questions to discuss about this specific virus.

As we know today, the way it progress is exponential, in therms of infected and deaths. As we also know, people can infect others during the incubation periods (approx. 10 day), which means they don't have any symptoms during this time.
As Scientists says, we're not sure on how the virus can infect others, as cough and sneeze are symptoms and the virus don't need those.

About that, what do you folks think about the spread capacity ?

To me, the spread is much biger than what we're actually told, from the simple fact that, on the worst case, every single person an infected is near, for a little period of time, without any contact, could possibly be infected too.
As the contagion began on december and we only got news about it late january, the contagion could have already spread on most of countries disguesed as a common seasonal virus.
Not to mention that numbers we actually see are reported cases. It is hard to believe that there is only 3 different articles (pretty few talking about that in fact) on the real capacity of this virus. Some scientists told the 24th january that the spread could already be almost 100'000 infected worldwide. This info was kinda hard to find through.

Another question is, as now reports suggest that it is much more like a simple cough, why then did they lock down that much people, how so people collapse on street, corpses lay on hospitals and why then even after having said that, people discovered infected on western countries are still put on 3rd level bio. facilities, to insure it won't spread ?

There is to me some untolds things. They could be nothing, but also they could be terrific too.
