Re: Coronavirus

Daily update Italy:

+ 2.313 new cases, total now 12.462
+ 196 new deaths, total now 827
Total in Serious/critical condition: 1028
Total Recovered 1.045

Hell....

Also I came across this as for age of people on IC's in Lombardia (I have not verified it, but seems o.k.)

01% = 18-24 yrs
09% = 25-49 yrs
32% = 50-64 yrs
38% = 65-74 yrs
20% = 75+ yrs

They say mantaining state of emergency, meaning cinemas, ski resorts, gyms, nightclubs and non-compulsory schools stay closed.

Did we not all just forget that Merkel still is involved in politics, she's doing a great job of being invisible. Germany has a serious problem with leadership atm, nobody seems to be in control and each province does what it wants Frankfurt is still scheduled to play European tomorrow with over 40K people in the stadium..

Re: Coronavirus

Schools closing in Ticino from tomorrow, but only post-obligatory, i.e. kindergarten, primary, secondary are still open, liceo, USI, SUPSI, etc. closed.

I heard them say on the radio that the Kanton called for the state of emergency and checked with 20min:

Re: Coronavirus

I see in BaselStadt that the buses are no longer using their front doors, presumably to lessen the risk to the driver.

That's me done, I'm WFH from now on.

They said we should expect 2 difficult months....

Danmark going to close all schools and universities, and as of Friday all non-critical public sector workers wil be send home.
(source Reuters)

Wonder when they'll announce the same here, easier to make such decision as politician if others have gone before you.

Is that already the speech of Conte in where he would address the nation and make important announcements?

(I thought that was set for in about half an hour and not already)

Re: Coronavirus

I do wish they would close the schools here. Most kids here could probably receive their lessons online. I just think some drastic measures need to be taken before this thing becomes much, much worse. I also think that anyone who can work from home should be told to work from home by their employers. I read that Italy has been criticized for not handling its situation better. I would hope that CH would learn from that. And now we can't really even rely on the published numbers since CH is no longer offering testing for many people.

To be honest I don't know. My husband speaks Italian not me. Think it was on Rai News 24.

Re: Coronavirus

Highlights from todays WHO situation Report:

  • WHO Director-General in his regular media briefing today stated that WHO has been assessing this outbreak around the clock and we are deeply concerned both by the alarming levels of spread and severity, and by the alarming levels of inaction. WHO therefore have made the assessment that COVID-19 can be characterized as a pandemic.

  • Four new countries/territories/areas (Bolivia [Plurinational State of], Jamaica, Burkina Faso and Democratic Republic of the Congo) have reported cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours.
  • The COVID-19 virus infects people of all ages. However, evidence to date suggests that two groups of people are at a higher risk of getting severe COVID-19 disease. These are older people; and those with underlying medical conditions. WHO emphasizes that all must protect themselves from COVID-19 in order to protect others.

Probably reported ealier but 159 new cases for CH, taking tally to 491.
But as we know, the Swiss are not testing everyone who thinks they have it, so those figures need to be taken with a big pinch of sodium.
Also from the report, which I have not noticed in previous ones:
The risk of severe disease gradually increases with age starting from around 40 years. It’s important that adults in this age range protect themselves and in turn protect others that may be more vulnerable.

My Easter break is looking dubious now.
