Good for you. The sos news we are getting in CZ is from the Czech medical staff employed in Northern Italy. They signalled that there is triage, 2 days ago. NYT quotes a mayor from Northern Italy complaining of some patients no longer being given treatment.

So, I double check sources and debunk your stuff (again, being extremely polite) and you say just ''Good for you'' ?

I would appreciate references from the news you receive in CZ from Italy (you know, names of the ospitals, at least, so I can doublecheck). However I can try to explain to you what is a intensive care triage, now, in Italy.

Please find below a rough translation from a link in the very article you referred (...........)

Giulio Gallera denies it: "The system is holding up, I absolutely deny a selection of patients to be treated", says the Regional Health Councillor Giulio Gallera interviewed by Radio 24 answering the question about a possible choice of patients to be treated during triage.

"We have many hospitals in situations of extraordinary pressure," he explains, "but the system is holding up. "If in some hospitals there are no places available - underlines the Councillor - the regional system intervenes and the choice is on who to intubate first and who to move and intubate in another hospital". "Ours is a race against the daily time - he adds - that so far fortunately we are winning. The number of places we make available manages to be greater than the needs, but it is increasingly difficult".

Just heard that Vorarlberg (yes, just over the border) are to have a 19:00 - 07:00 lockdown. No shops, restaurants, whatever allowed to open.

Re: Coronavirus

Liechtenstein also closing all schools and daycare centers, for parents in urgent need of a care center for the kid till they arranged something they will remain open till latest 20th March.

I'd be utterly surprised if school/Daycares remain open here, tho I wonder how much it would matter. I'm keeping my kid home as of today and expect a lot of people doing the same.

(honest)I sort of hope they will close daycare, not just to stop a spreading but also since I will start keeping my kid at home as of Monday till it is deemed safe again, and it would save a lot of money if it isn't purely on me he is not going. He just got better from another disease and is having a couple of days there now this week, and he absolutely enjoys it so I take the risk and let him have those days with the other kids and mudslides and all. But on the other hand. There are 200 kids there, with the current spread rates we might as well inject ourselves voluntarily with corona to have it over with and see how we end up. But I rather not.(/honest)

Italy's new numbers are sort of insane to me, and they are far from having solved this so the numbers will only become more insane.

Re: Coronavirus

Has anyone ordered computer parts since end of January that were listed "available at an outside supplier" and actually got them yet? I ordered some bits and they're still not here, I'm wondering if they're sitting in a warehouse in China and there's no staff able to work there.

Eh? 250 in Italy, 100 in CH. Both as of yesterday. CH needs another week or so to catch up.
The speed of the growth.... that is the problem.

Most of us probably don't speak Italian here so it would be an asset that you do. We are all affected by this virus one way or the other and being expats in Switzerland (or further away as in my case) somethings do get lost in translation which can lead to added frustration.

Please do continue to help us translate any articles - keep us informed or Italian news updates. This would be of great interest to us on this thread. We relied heavily on reporting outside (and inside) china from both foreign and chinese new sources. The focus has shifted now to Europe and of course Italy.

Thanks, I completely understand, I am really worried about the italian situation, I was supposed to meet all my family for the 90th birthday of my grandpa end of may, not sure anymore that would be a good idea, they say in Switzerland the peak should be around may.

In Italy the situation is very tough, understimating the problem has not helped, italian's attitude as well was not helpful. Now we hope to see some result in a couple of weeks, but is just hope.

As a side note, we still can not find a patient zero, if any. It seems from what we know till now that the kind of Virus we had at the beginning was already 3rd generation, was not directly from China.

The Germans probably confiscated it. Together with all the other stuff for Switzerland.

They've just shut down the biggest international school in geneva as of next week, or should I say moved classes to online.

Re: Coronavirus

A friend of a friend is a kindergarten teacher.

She has little children in her class with sore, cracked skin on the backs of their hands, from frequent, rough washing. Now she has to teach them how and when to, but especially how not to and when not to wash their hands, lest they, well, you know, get some sort of infection.

It all depends, but why pay for a service that I can't use and have no ability to use it.

However if they would have problems to keep the company going, I'd also say all parents should pay at least such part that if this is over we still have a daycare to bring our kid to.

Company can drop the profit, they can eat from their reserves and we can pay along to keep them alive. I'm all for sharing the pain since my kid loves them, they are a great company and I would love to eventually bring him there again to the same group with the same people.

There are strong rumours VD will follow Tessin on the schools situation. Vaud authorities are scheduled to make an announcement at 14:30 today.

Home as in not in daycare, malls, playcenters and all such

Can't lock a kid inside for a month (and we don't have to.. through the backdoor, through the field and into the forest.)

Or the NYT has lost the plot, as they seem to have since 2016. They're no longer credible as a reputable newspaper, despite European papers parroting everything they say about Trump.

I read the link and it says:

"There are now simply too many patients for each one of them to receive adequate care. Doctors and nurses are unable to tend to everybody. They lack machines to ventilate all those gasping for air."

How is that not having to choose?
This exactly. And, according to the Czech healthcare staff employed in IT that called CZ press in despair, they have to triage when picking people up to bring them to IC wards.

I think this is the situation which people are not mentally prepared for. The idea that care might simply not be available.
Absolutely, this.
