Aren't respirators supposed to be strategically reserved? The news of nurses having to use the same respirator repeatedly was not long ago.
Please, read and think before you post a reply.
Oh yeah, let's have reserves of everything we ever might need if the whole world comes to a halt.

I'm not even going into this discussion....

You're not the only one being surprised. But on a second thought, it's not surprising at all.

Re: Coronavirus

I still hear a lot of people irl or on media pltforms like "oh this is only for 2 or 3 weeks", "oh this will be over soon".

I think those people should start considering that this is most likely not going to be a "just a few weeks thing"

Une "petite grippette"?

I wonder how will the vaccines change the cycle that we are in for.

Re: Coronavirus

Starting 6am tomorrow Czech government is instituting a complete shut down, when citizens are allowed to leave their domiciles only for emergencies and for minimal time: work if they are still needed, food/meds, check on family. Everybody agrees, but it is still scary.

Re: Coronavirus

Here are FAQs of the Swiss Federal Health Department, specifically with regard to the workplace. (11.03.2020)

They cover - albeit very briefly - many aspects, neatly numbered, for example: employees staying away from work, unemployment, having to care for children who cannot attend school, entrepreneurial risk, inability to pay wages, insolvency, masks, working hours, and many more. There is a hotline.

Re: Coronavirus

This pretty much sums up what most of Us the People (at least in Australia) think about how governments around the world, but especially the government of one of the smaller North American countries, have tackled the coronavirus crisis.

You're probably not in the office now anyway, but on the off chance that you are, maybe slip on a pair of headphones and hunch over your screen so your co-workers don't get offended by a bit of sturdy Aussie vernacular.

You can find a slightly more suitable-for-work (or for kids) version here.

Re: Coronavirus

This may sound like tinfoil mode, but I do wonder if the real reason the Swiss government won't close the borders and shut the airports (which should have happened two if not six weeks ago, at least) is the anti-mass migration ballot initiative coming up for vote in 2 months. They appear to be petrified of demonstrating that it's actually possible and doable, albeit with a high cost.

If we're heading to confinement, is this going to be country wide or are they finally going to start admitting which towns are the most infected? Only Italy and China have dared to do it by town/village so far, I'm surprised it's taking this long (and don't give me the excuse of medical staff needing to commute, they should have been moved to housing near the hospitals weeks ago).

Notice BAG didn't give the breakdown of numbers by Canton yesterday after that massive increase of 800+ cases. I hope that's just a blip in reporting, not the new norm. We're being lied to by omission enough as it is, we don't need more of that.

And some light relief: https://babylonbee.com/news/nations-...tion-forbidden

I was just in touch with a very good friend in Shanghai China this morning working for the same company as me, this is what she wrote...

"sorry to hear that you all are going through what China experienced last month... we're back in office (with masks) since beginning of March. Please do wear masks when going to public areas. Stay safe!"

...they were asked to work from home and not come to the office in Early February.

Talking about restaurant. Me and my partner are a fast food restaurant owner in Lausanne, employing 3 workers . Schools closures is already a disaster for us, because most of our customers are kids from secondary schools and above , but restaurant closures means that I’m completely out of income.
How the heck I’m going to pay the bills, already have like 20000ch to pay at the end of March just for work place. Still need to pay salaries and house bills plus of course you need to have some money just for living. We are family of 5.
Any solution for this? What me and other in similar situation should do?
I don’t have solutions, only empathy. That is going to be very tough. Can you convert to home delivery or take away option (although that may also be shut down).

This worries more then getting the virus. In general I don’t know how small- medium business survive this as govts start to shut down society completely.

I read somewhere in Switzerland by law they need to keep paying staff if they can not find childcare for the kids based on school closure.

Govts will step in with rescue packages, but the economic impact is going to be a shit show this year. I imagine quite a few Business will collapse, and others will need to take drastic action post the pandemic to survive.

P.s. anyone hear of the outcomes from the emergency cabinet meeting last night ?

They postponed taking any decisions despite very strong Cantonal pressure. Maybe something today? It's about time we moved to phase 3 of the epidemics plan.

Re: Coronavirus

I know a (Swiss) couple who have both just developed flu. They are late 60s/early 70s and otherwise fit and healthy.

They are not concerned, but their question and mine is when they recover in a couple of weeks how do they know if they did or didn't have Covid-19?? Is there a post flu blood test?

If there is a total lock-down here, and only pharmacies and grocery stores are open, should we expect long lines outside the grocery store? For some reason, I haven't seen much about that in terms of what's been happening in Italy (if there have been long lines there). Also, I assume that gas stations would stay open? No idea what to expect.
The shops that remain open will be those selling the three Fs.
  • Food
  • Fuel
  • Farmaceuticals (ahem)

So yes, gas stations remain open.

Covid-19 is normally fever and a dry cough and possibly breathing difficulties. If you have a chesty cough or runny/blocked nose etc it is probably the common cold or flu.
