You could impose a French Only rule in your house. Or alternate F/E each day. May have added benefits.

Like what? Recreative silence every other day?

Working from home isn't new territory for teachers - it's where the bulk of the planning, prep and marking happens after all - it's the potential online teaching from home that is the issue.
This is different .. Of course they prepare stuff and mark at home but they normally have 15 kids in front of them, they normally walk around the class, talk to the kids, explain things to them, these are young kids, they teach them how to write even.. Stuff like that doesn't translate into remote working. This is new territory.

I wonder if they actually do online-teaching here. John_H keeps saying they "sent" stuff. To me that sounds they just mail jobs to do, which they normally hand out on paper. Also, with proper online teaching the children wouldn't forget their French? (Yeah, well, they won't anyway within a few weeks but he mentioned he's concerned about it).
Yes .. Correct. They started by contact all the parents, asking who actually had stuff like computers and printers (some did not) .. Then we received the first pages of work -- along with the expected answers separately..

So the explaining part is still gone.. Well we have to do it but in our method..

I'm sure it's a lot easier for older teenagers who are more used to just absorbing data..

Maybe they'll move to a more advanced thing like video teaching .. It's only day two.. I'm not slating the teachers at all, it's just new..

Oh we are trying .. I even touted the fact that if they speak FR ... Mummy won't understand and they can keep secrets..

No cheese..

Well- here is my question. Why was it OK for you to be walking by the lake with your kids, in a place where there are many people? I know they are in the 'at risk group' and your kids are not ... but ?!?

Old people do not have access to computers, social media, etc - and they will die of depression and loneliness if they can't go out at all. Young people can go further away to walk in less busy, and less accessible places, perhaps?

I am not that old, have access to a computer 24/7, what's up, phones, skype, etc- can read, garden, walk in the woods- and I will NOT be one of the above- but ...

A young woman on a local FB group was complaining bitterly that she met a couple of families out for a walk- and felt they should not be there, where she was walking her dog. Why is her dog more important than the kids and family?
Theres no reason for people to come into the city if they dont have to.They could go into the forest. They are selfish thoughtless people. Why go into the city . They are drty places full of pestilence and disease

Hey Curley,

Please define proper online teaching.

In Vaud the whole Educanet system we use for emails, doc sharing, and yes including with students, was down all day. Probably overloaded by the huge number of teachers and kids trying to connect and set online teaching.

At this moment we don’t have the means to do online teaching. The department is trying to organise something (at least in Vaud), but up to now we’ve always been told NOT to do anything online with parents and students. Thus it’s a bit of a panic to change all recommandations and find ways to switch to online teaching. Plus there are many teachers (of all age!) who are technophobe and can barely write an email on a computer.

Nope (unless they opened illegally), but they all still have active online-shops.

If against all information they decide to do that then not much we can do. On the plus side, we'll benefit as the pension system will be relieved. (dark humor don't groan me)
There has to be a limit as to how far the State can interfere with the private lives of people!

when it comes to actions from people that are directly a threat for the wellbeing of others I'd say the option to interfere should be unlimited.

Re: Coronavirus

Czech Secretary of Edu together with schools and state tv organized "School on TV", started yesterday. Each day one particular subject, from 9-12am, 5 levels. Loads of explaining and exercises going on, with answers given later. Each class is taught by a different teacher.

A major CZ textbook publisher now (yesterday) opened their free access to all pdf textbooks for all levels, Primary --> end of High school. They really don't want students to wait with Matus and other milestone exams.

Online teaching is cool. Hope the Swisscom réseau holds up.

As per schoolwork arriving for the little (taller) one, day 2, cca 4 hrs of work per day so far, will be more asap I expect 6hrs of work at least. Together with exercising we do to keep the PE routine, cooking and arts everyday, my work and school work and spring cleaning we started....and prepping concert in the windows of our building (most adults play instruments or are music profs here and kids play instruments) - we are busier in this supposedly... "downtime" than ever.

Never have we seen so many people and especialy children out in groups on the streets PLEASE PLEASE tell children to stop "hanging out". What has just happened in France will happen here!
The highstreet is dead, many businesses will not recover! Help keep the little we have left running by being responsible in this desperate time. Stop Unnecessary Social Contact or we will loose much more than anyone can imagine...

Partly as a protection of our private life. Partly because no system was deemed safe enough (we’ve been asked to stop using Dropbox professionally as its servers are based out of Switzerland).

With public schooling, things must be done globally, for the whole canton. Things take ages to move. But we’re getting there I suppose!

In Germany they are preparing for the crisis by stocking up on sausages and cheese. They are calling this a Würst Käse scenario.
