@lost_inbroad: since when the method to count the sick changed in CH?

Not really possible to compare Italy and Switzerland in infections per capita. Switzerland is small (~8.5 million) and basically all cantons are affected. Italy is ~60 million and only the regions in the north of Italy are heavily affected. So, the large population of Italy may mask what happens in a smaller region.
Switzerland does not have the even virus case distribution you claim.

WE dont need any government to protect us! I am responsible for what happens in my life and you should also be.
OK, please tell me how your responsibility for your life can prevent this:
- lots of those who don't care run about and cause a surge in infections;
- health system collapses;
- you catch the bug from your kid and fall ill seriously (god forbid) and need medical care but can't obtain it.

Let's see, I live in an apartment complex with 6 units. The path to the parking garage in order to access my vehicle has 4 doors. The access to the parking garage is shared with 6 other apartment complexes with at least 6 units each. Just think of the potential of either spreading or being infected on the way to the mod mobile. I'll stay put, unless I really need to leave the comfort of my home.
Its called paranoia. Nothing less! Life is full of risks. And someday you are going to be 6 ft under.

You are also responsible for the effects you have on others.

It's true that in an ideal world, where no one was selfish, we wouldn't need the government to protect us. We wouldn't need police to deal with crime. And maybe in the world you inhabit it's like that. Meanwhile back in the real world...

Well naturally there are certain things that one has no control of. But you are still responsible for the things that are under your control. And I dont need any government to tell me how to live my life. Especially when the people in the government cannot even manage their own lives!

Re: Coronavirus

Weekly uptick in in numbers of positive cases:
Italy = 33,000
Spain = 22,000
Germany = 20,000
Switzerland = 5.000
Holland = 3,000
UK = 4,500
France = 11,000

As there is no standard for testing, the numbers are not comparable.
I'm sure the UK is just revving up.

How can vulnerable people get in contact with you when you are sitting at home?

If you ignore the advice, leave your home and contact vulnerable people then you are definitely 100% responsible.
I don't have the luxury to stay at home. I can not work from home. I'm not in a risk group. I'm not sick. So the government recommendation at this moment is to keep on working and not be home.

Re: Coronavirus

When will these measures actually be lifted?

If you think it is safe but miss 5 cases, you can have a whole new pandemic.

Wouldn't it be better to just let it happen and get it over with, as it's out of control anyway? I'm more and more thinking that this is better than living in fear and destroying the economy.

I guess the current plan is to keep the measures in place until the curve flattens, or goes down (big "if" and "when" here), and then the question will be what to do next. If we lift all restrictions and do nothing the infections will re-bound. So we'll be able to have some restrictions lifted, but effort will still be needed to contain the bug, until maybe the vaccine is developed. The author of this article calls it "The dance" stage (in the second half):

In the Black Death of the 1300's most of Europe was wiped out and a New Age began. Is that what is needed here?

No, what is needed is a solid, week-long disruption in your internet connection in order for the system to recover from your viral posts.

I would be cautious about drawing any conclusions from these numbers because I have little confidence in their accuracy. The reason is they are all over the place!
The overall shape of the graph does not look anything like the summary graphs from "worldometers" and there is no reason for Switzerland to be significantly different. It was posted here earlier that the Swiss have problems recording and collating the numbers.
Numbers all over the place....welcome to the real world

There is a reason for CH to be different to the "worldometers" graphs: small numbers. The smooth graphs are the result of adding cases of whole regions and countries. The larger the scale, the more homogeneous the data looks.

Also, it seems that during weekends the number of new cases is lower on Switzerland.

I would not distrust the data because of these issues. I'd be more worried if the data looked smooth, that's a huge red flag for cooked numbers.

Well lets face it. If the world wants to continue as normal ( pre Corona ) there are two outcomes. Either the human race destroys itself or nature will destroy it.

I don't think our healthcare system could handle so many people suffering severe symptoms at one time. I watched a documentary last night about what happens (or what can happen) to your lungs and immune system when you get this virus. It's NOT pretty. Also, there is some evidence that you can get the virus more than once (apparently, your immunity to it may only last for a certain period of time, after recovery). I guess the virus can also cause long-term or permanent lung damage. I don't think this is something that we want the majority of people to have.

So much for the European dream...

Italy wonders where Europe’s solidarity is as coronavirus strains show

Germany blocks exports of medical supplies to Rome

When Italy asked for urgent medical supplies under a special European crisis mechanism no EU country responded.

Fearful of its own shortages, Germany initially banned the export of medical masks and other protective gear. 3M, a producer, said the German restrictions had made it impossible to supply the Italian market.

Only 3 countries have sent support to Italy: Russia, China and Cuba

...or, we can just destroy nature. Like that, we don't have to worry about nature destroying us. Simples, really! Can't believe nobody else came up with that ingenious plot.
