don't panic, migros says there is enough on the shelves

Things can go quickly if we all buy a bunch of extra stuff to have some stock, and I did see people leaving the store with more than normally today, and that was even before the Swiss case was known.

Don't want to know how busy Marktkauf in Konstanz will be tomorrow :P

I’d like to visit pharmacy/drogorie tomorrow. Any suggestions on cold/flu products not requiring a prescription?

I’ve used NeoCitric briefly and that’s about it.

Thanks.
NeoCitran is useless - but popular.

The very old fashioned Alcacyl (before you go to bed, mainly).
Vick VapoRub.
Lots of fluid - I cut fresh ginger, add hot water and a little honey.
Vitamin C - my doctor once told me to just get those from Migros or Coop. Cheaper than from the pharmacy but same effect.
Lots of sleep.
Gute Besserung.

Yeah we all have statistics about you're more likely to be hurt doing this or that. Funny how all those pop up just when an epidemic starts. I wonder how many people in Wuhan fell down stairs whilst infected?
I want to know the statistics about comparing chances of winning the lotto and getting this virus. It's the easiest way for me to get an idea.

Wow, seriously? CNN spent all this time on reporting the one case in Switzerland?!

Panic buying is not a typical Swiss reaction. Although it might make sense for Chinese specialities as the flights don't come in regularly at the moment.

Like, duh! Of course they do. They're a way of helping people to have a sense of proportion and to not panic.

there are these cloth roll dispenser (I call them infinite towel machines) where I work, definitely not drying my hands with those,
You know they're just really long folded towels, and when they reach the end, they're removed and washed at high temperature? They're one of the most hygienic ways to dry your hands. Drying your hands quickly and effectively is vital to removing as many bugs from your hands as possible. Wet hands transmit 1000x more bugs than dry hands.

Here's some light reading for you - with references to scientific papers. http://www.dberkhoudtarchitect.com/2...an-air-dryers/

Probably because Switzerland does not suffer from severe, or any tornados, tsunamis, earthquakes, droughts, insect plagues, volcanic eruptions, military coups, etc etc etc.

Panic buying may be the wrong thing to do but people usually have reasons for doing it.

That’s if you trust the numbers that have been coming out if China. President Xi has also said China will hit their economic targets in spite of the Coronavirus, which just adds to my skepticism of anything that comes out of China.

Re: Coronavirus

Last night I was reading an article in 20 minutes quoting a Swiss doctor who gave a generalization of the virus. Basically, he was saying the risk of catching it was much higher for the over 50 age group and those over 70 were most prone to catching it. 80% of those infected were over 50 years of age.

Quote

If anyone can find the article for me, I’d be most appreciative.
I look younger than 50. I should be safe

Latest stats here. Basically if you're over 70 or 80 and particularly if you're male - lock yourself away. 60s...Russian roulette. Below 60 no biggie unless you have an underlying condition.

To clarify, he's not talking about the risk of catching the virus, but how severe the symptoms, if any, are likely to be.

That's not what the WHO are saying.

Any one can catch it, at any age. The more people around you who have it, the more likely you are to catch it.

However, you are more likely to develop serious complications requiring hospitaliation, and with a more serious outcome if you are older, especially older men.

Yong people may get very minor symptoms, if any.

Not to mention the folk who are barely affected can still pass it on to the most vulnerable.

A pharmacist friend of mine who has had all the briefings etc says it's so contagious because it's a novel (new) strain ofthe cold virus. No natural/acquired immunity anywhere.

I would like a questionnaire outside the supermarket.

1. Do you hoard out of fear of what could happen due to the disease.
2. Do you hoard because you think other people would empty the store.

I have no doubt that if we all act sane that stores will keep on having plenty of food and other stuff, perhaps not always what I want but still more than enough. However if I would see that everybody grabs 3 packs of toilet paper, than I also grab some extra packs just to avoid them buying it all and me wiping my ass with the Coop Magazine, and due to this stores can run out of a bunch of products quickly.
