Re: Coronavirus

As you see I'm fully in favour of imaginative ways in which we can keep people fully employed
while staying at home during the lockdowns.

The Swedes just took a different path and a lot has more has been made of this than has actually happened. Many of the rules that apply to us in Switzerland are also being advised in Sweden, the only difference being that they're advised and not enforced, and the Swedish people are encouraged/expected to make a choice dependent on their individual cicumstances/risk level, etc.
.
Which is very different than what some people claimed here..

Anyways, I can agree with the fact that we have to look at the whole picture and not make an obsession for this virus but that has been already mentioned and agreed upon here.

Since it came up - I looked at stats from back home with main causes of premature deaths including corona and unsurprisingly corona is among the last ones. People still die there times more of cancers and x3 of cardiovascular diseases and then diabetes and other illnesses. We follow the Western European trend even here thanks to poor diet. I bet all that high fatty meat consumption is partly to blame. Corona virus as cause of death in the last months was really among the lowest ones but not the lowest...and that because early measures were taken. Who knows what will be later on if they relax all these measures. I'm worried for my mom and other relatives.

Tucker Carlson agrees with your worries. https://www.foxnews.com/media/tucker...ar-coronavirus

I am not sure if I personally agree with the tone, since there is a fine line between protection and over-protection and generally I tend to believe that the measures are done in a good faith to save lives.

But what you said bugs more people than just you, that is evident.

Czech Chamber of Medicine has published some stats on most infected jobs so far, after medical professions (10%), the highest percentage are teachers (), drivers, police officers, social workers, firemen & paramedics and then soldiers.

Have you ever been in a war?

There are a few people on EF that have and they'd probably disagree with you.

With regards to food shortages, for example, one member mentioned that the only item for sale in the supermarket in their time of war was cooking oil.

Hardly the same situation here, is it?

Reality check, perhaps?

I remember when the Bundesrat announced the re-opening of schools someone on here (reasonably) asked what was the scientific evidence behind it. Seems the decision might be correct, now beginning to be some evidence behind it.

Also an earlier UCL study

We spent 14 months 9 people of which 5 kids in a 70m2 apartment. Water and electricity only few hours per day. Already at 5am 100 people waiting in front of a shop and inside 3 liters of milk, 2 loafs of bread. For gasoline you had to wait a whole day in a line and push your car, when your turn came you were allowed 2 liters of petrol. Army tanks were going over pretty much anything that was on the streets. You didn't know who the bad or good guys were and you couldn't risk to encounter anybody outside, even your family or friends as you had no idea who they were fighting for.

So in this time of video on demand, home delivery of every cuisine imaginable, supermarkets full of goods, people sunbathing every day in parks and the only thing to ruin your day is the police assistant asking you to keep 2m distance while you picnic with your friends... It's a little different i'd day
