I thought nose-picking was a national pastime here.
Yeah. I don't get it. The nation that is ever so strict with babies/kids and imposing certain codes of conduct. Only here.

Latest figures from analysis of the data of the first 44'000 cases in China. Death rate among men 2.8%, among women 1.7%.
I wonder what conditions are real threat - chemo, damaged lungs, smoking (?), asthma, heart disease? Are women in general less susceptible to accute pneumonia complications?

Unfortunately, MC has posted what she thinks a 'bugger' is, but the correct response would be an immediate banning offence.

Probably those, yes.

There's some evidence that this is the case - but the flip side is susceptibility to auto-immune diseases like arthritis. It also means that man colds rellay are far worse than woman colds.

Re: Coronavirus

The things that make you more susceptible are chronic diseases, diabetes, heart disease, respiratory diseases like Copd, asthma. Also suppressed immune systems - chemo, drugs for auto immune conditions, anything that impacts your blood count (lowered red/white/platelet cells). Anything which impacts your ability to fight off a viral infection, or any deficit in breathing function. Lots of things figure into the mix.

As for gender difference - you have to make sure it’s just gender and not confounded by age, disease or some other factor. Maybe women have better hygiene habits or level of care.

The epidemiology is hard when you’re in the middle of a novel virus outbreak. The data changes every day, as involvement spreads.

For some light hearted reading about frank comments that a Singapore cabinet minister made, behind closed door, on public reaction to the epidemic, link here.

Singapore has been hailed for its handling so far.

A friend of mine said some of the difference, particularly in Asia, could be down to lifestyle over the years. He said that "back in the day" (whatever that means) nearly every guy in China or Japan was a smoker and women barely smoked at all.

Anecdotally, man colds aside, it seems many men are less likely to go to the doctor when sick until they're pretty sure they're going to die.

I saw a person wearing a face mask here for the first time last week. She was walking with a suitcase toward the Illuster mall / hotel in Uster. I'm wondering if people who have taken international flights from countries that are highly affected with the virus are advised to wear masks until they're sure that they didn't catch it. No idea.
Was just in a few Asian countries/airports. From my observations, the mask wearership was somewhere from 40-70%.

I was instructed to wear one or else I would not be admitted through the airport, didn't feel like the case, but I complied.

I treated it just like another item of clothing for a different culture. No more uncomfortable than having to wear shorts at the beach.

Well that does make some sort of sense, minimising the chance of you passing it on to others via droplets from your mouth or nose if you've already been exposed.

Definitely, and was flying from one of the more infected countries, to one without any 'reported' cases. Once there, the masks were a rare sighting once again.

I would like a questionnaire outside the supermarket.

1. Do you hoard out of fear of what could happen due to the disease.
2. Do you hoard because you think other people would empty the store.

I have no doubt that if we all act sane that stores will keep on having plenty of food and other stuff, perhaps not always what I want but still more than enough. However if I would see that everybody grabs 3 packs of toilet paper, than I also grab some extra packs just to avoid them buying it all and me wiping my ass with the Coop Magazine, and due to this stores can run out of a bunch of products quickly.
"Hoard" is a negative word. Why dont you just say " stock up"
