I was in the shops yesterday and there are still plenty of alco wipes and the likes around the place, not sure where the rest of you are shopping that they're all sold out. I didn't buy any, mostly because I've never bought any. I'll admit to buying an extra few kilos of pasta.
I was this morning at a Lidl in Zürich, durable milk almost sold out (only some 1,5% left), olive oil sold out, Barilla pasta's sold out, anything that disinfects (besides strong booze) Sold out.

I might hoard some things we use a lot like Rice, Coffee, Babywipes, Olive-oil sometime this week. Would simply hate to run out of such things. Pasta's we still have plenty from a 50% discount action some time ago and Whisky well.. there is always a stock of at least 15 different ones

Re: Coronavirus

Basically anybody with a high fever and/or symptoms of a flu - not an unusual occurrence this time of year - is a suspect now.

I wondered what I'd do if I developed such symptoms and decided I would send my GP an email * and follow his advice. I would not just go to his praxis as I neither would want to pass it on nor pick it up there. After all he might send me straight to a place, where this can be tested or do a house-call.
Did they actually tell the public what to do in case of flu-symptoms?

*I always converse with him via email unless I do need an appointment with him for sure and call his praxis-staff for that.

As to panic-shopping: As an old man in Ticino told the press: Not even when the war broke out, people went that crazy.
I have one cupboard shelf with back-up food and spices (only because I don't like surprises while cooking) and that is good enough.
Not to mention that nobody is really hungry while suffering from a flu. A hen-house full of live-stock and a veggie garden would make more sense.

Been there, done that this week. They took blood, looked at the viral load, did the usual stuff and asked the usual questions. Gave me some meds and took me off work for this week. I did not have the "other" symptoms so he told me to come back if those appear (dry cough for example).

Now home enjoying my tea

Not quite sure what it says about us, but we could survive a lockdown of at least a year on our supply of booze. Well, they do say hydration is more important than food ...

Re: Coronavirus

The most that I have done so far in terms of taking brave steps of precaution against corona virus is downloading app COVID on my smartphone. Unfortunately, it’s only in Italian. Then I checked this site: https://coronavirus.app/

Prevention is all that I can do and manifested belief in one’s strong DNA.

Yeah, booze is the least of our problems. (if there would be stock problems) for some reason there is always like 50 bottles of strong booze at home. In case of emergency one of our neighbours has filled his cellar storage with over a f###load of wine.

On a lot of things we never stock, just buy on a need to replace empty stuff and perhaps an extra package when it is on sale.

How does that help? does it show you when to go into quarantine or to a doctor?

Noticed the same last night although there still was a decent amount of Lidl pasta (the power of marketing - Lidl pasta is as good as Barilla). Also noticed the frozen veg stock was very low (annoying as I needed some).

And now two cases in the Grisons, so we're now up to 4, including one case 45 minutes down the road... Wonderful. Still no border closing or isolating Tessin, but it may be too late for that.

But how do you effectively close such border? Send out the army and shoot who tries to rush through? If you're not willing to do so (which we are not) it makes no sense and is just symbolical, besides that we'd need to close the airports, we need to close the borders with Germany, Austria and France. Italy has so many since they decided to test a truckload of people, here we only test those that report themselves and are suspected just a couple of hundreds up to now. Maybe if we would do 100.000 random tests we'd learn that we already have hundreds of cases in the country (which I tbh would expect already)

Re: Coronavirus

All it took was one infected person to enter Italy for the Coronavirus to spread throughout Europe. Just one person. That's how contagious this flu is.

There's no way closing the border would keep the virus at bay. People need to live, trade and work. Basically, we're going to have to learn how to live with this virus until:

- we find a vaccine
- it disappears on its own

Spot on .. Thousands will have the virus in CH already, most will just assume they have the cold.

Absolutely no point in closing down borders now. .

I heard from a guy in the pub that it was spreading through infected pasta coming out of Italy

If you have pasta at home you should boil it to kill the virus.

You're always supposed to boil or bake pasta.
