Not as funny as the last few posts but this analysis is really interesting:
https://www.luzernerzeitung.ch/schwe...anz-ld.1221111
That's an interesting article. To me, it gives perspective opens up a bargaining process to avoid future lockdowns, e.g. If you all do x, y and z, we won't need to go back into lockdown. In effect, every measure taken had an effect, but some a hell of lot more than others, and it's particularly bad news for bars and restaurants.

If we're stuck with this virus for the foreseeable, I wonder if people are going to stop using cash altogether.

As an aside: I've stopped taking my phone out with me after nearly killing it with disinfectant. If we're going to be asked to use a track and trace app, what's the most hygienic way of carrying your phone, or is there a universal cover that's resistant to chemical cleaning?

Why dont they simply have an app that gives out a warning when one is too close . Like the " pull up,pull up " warning in an aircraft.
Or really close. Like "pull out, pull out!"

What if you pull up and out? Well, you might come.....a little too close.

Are the pubs open tonight? I need some social contact.

Your phone really only gets dirty from you. So if you follow normal hygiene protocols then your phone should be clean?

If you are paranoid about it you can buy a cheap UVC steriliser for phone and anything else really.Example.

Attention though, many sellers are selling UVA/B lights and calling them sterilisers, they are not, they are just blue lights.. A proper UVC light will hurt your eyes and skin pretty quickly Care required ..

Big Clive gives a good description on the use of them. Including the one from Wish.

Nothing paranoid about it. Just following the same standard protocol as when dealing with another serious contagious disease a number of years ago. I used to keep my shopping list on a phone app, so frequently used it in supermarkets. Used the camera feature a lot too. It's the only thing I'd take shopping that can't be dunked in soapy water or run through the washing machine. I was thinking more along the lines of a totally waterproof casing which still allows the phone to be used.

Simply lightly wiping with alcohol will take care of it, no?

Just keep it in an appropriately sized zip lock bag? Most half decent modern phones can just be washed under the tap too, my kids take theirs in the swimming pool!

Personally i find it overkill but each to their own of course.. I have hand sanitiser in the boot of the car so when i load the shopping and return the chariot, i clean my hands. That's enough for me, I don't boil wash my clothes when i get home or wash the shopping etc.

With some garlic, too. It will be vampire-proof.

Not having to carry the phone when shopping is pleasant.

I think you should try sarcasm less frequently, Urs. You're not good at it, seriously.

Everything arrives here with 10 years delay? What on earth are you talking about and what's your point? Do you think Swiss economy has 10 more years to deal with recession? Like they thought corona virus won't really reach Switzerland? Like that? And then we had to lock ourselves in our homes (those responsible at least) for 2 months because they didn't take the appropriate measures earlier? Not a travel warning to people who travelled to Asian countries, not checking anyone upon their arrival here. And many, many other...are you for real?
OH has a colleague who travelled to all the important Asian countries in March! beginning of March, was questioned in every airport - Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand....nothing, absolutely nothing when he got to Zurich.

You're living on another planet then, not planet Switzerland. Don't preach me anything because I don't take any shit from people who can't communicate. And yeah, "if you don't like it here go home"....spare me. I am 100% sure the Swiss authorities won't agree with you on this one, and this is all it counts at the end of the day. Not the games on EF.
Exactly, that's it!
I *knew* you'd agree!

Now, if only we could get the important Asian countries to adapt and follow suit, China, India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Japan, the world would gain precious time to learn more about this virus and how to fight it.

You can see it already in the slowing spread around here, the Swiss way works very well.

I don't boil wash anything but I do wash the shopping because my OH has a surpressed immune system. I did boil wash my clothes on doctor's advice when my late mum was in hospital isolation 15yrs ago. All her visitors were advised to do so even though we needed gowns and gloves to enter her room.

Depends, the liquid must contain at least 70% alcohol.

If you don't mind comitting a crime and need to "stretch" your Brennspiritus (what you buy as pure but undrinkable alcohol) you could mix your Jack Daniels (any other liquor with at least 40% alcohol will do as well) with about 1.3 times as much Brennspiritus.

.

It probably depends on the phone.

More recent phones are IP67 "splash-proof".

Apple used to advise against using alcohol etc, but:

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT207123

...they've revised that position.
Overcome by events, as they say...

The flagship models are usually waterproof. Lower models not so likely.

I don't think it's that 1:1, people will react differently in summer than winter and early spring. OTOH outdoors may well be significantly less contageous than indoors due to natural renewal of the air and inherent dilution of its viral load.

And then there's the tracing app. With a high enough acceptance that could be the gamechanger all by itself. Assuming it works well enough in practice - yet another learning curve we face. The fact that Germany followed Switzerland's move and switched to the DP-3T model a few weeks ago may well mean that it will be used EU-wide, a good thing as the model basically has built-in privacy.

Re: Coronavirus

My OH and I took a long walk with our lab through Zurich (Niederdorf) and and through the Bahnhofstrasse. Let's just say there were so many out walking in groups and without masks - we couldn't believe it!

There also seemed to be some kind of protest outside of the Opera house, Sechselautenplatz. The place was beyond packed (no social distancing of any sort). It looked to be a protest to us but not sure.

One thing will be interesting... if the number of cases of Corona in Zurich remains flat in two weeks after what we witnessed today, that can only mean many more carry the virus and have not been tested. The crowds in central Zurich reminded me of mid July or August and very few wore masks.
