Also interesting to read the comments following the article, not all congratulatory, especially since his expertise is not in viruses.

Also, his employer is not so happy and "consequences" are not ruled out.

Meanwhile, most US states are attempting to return to normal with varying results.
North Carolina saw new coronavirus cases surge Saturday, marking its highest single-day count of new cases to date.
I hope it works out for all of them.
They burn heretics don't they?

I guess some people value their freedom more than you do. Stockholm syndrome ?
How can you tell? From a couple of phrases on EF?

I don't know who is suffering from Stockholm syndrome here....

You know absolutely nothing about me or my values. This is nothing to do with freedom. Also I think you might need to research Stockholm Syndrome.

Greenmount, I've just seen your post. Love it! . The menfolk don't like it when the wimmins do thinking. Scares them , poor lambs.

I told you, Iíve looked and canít find any convincing scientific proof that the lockdown has made any difference to the rate of infection. Thatís why Iíve asked you to point me to where youíve seen it.

You need to look harder.

For example, here & here.

Swing and a miss, both articles refer to social distancing. Social distancing in its own would have been sufficient without full lockdowns.

There are c. 37000 dead from Covid19 in the UK as opposed to around 250 - 400k deaths, though the rate the Tories are going there's still time.

You're basically trying to argue water isn't wet.

You personally may not be convinced. That's up to you. Millions of others are not prepared to take the risk.

Stop peddling your opinion as anything other than your opinion. It diminishes anything else you may have to say.

More nonsense ignoring the published facts

Edit: So you claim an article with the title "Why lockdowns can halt the spread of COVID-19" is not about lockdowns

Erm... the SCIENCE is convinced.

Don't attempt to patronise me. It's an emotive subject, for some people anyway.

That EVERYONE who doesn't AGREE with his OPINION (presented as fact) is WRONG because he is the MOST CORRECT anyone has EVER been.

Probably. Innit.

Re: Coronavirus

The lockdown was necessary.

You need to break people's habits. And that is only possible with very drastic actions and measures.
Mostly, though, because people here around have little discipline and don't really like to be told by "the man" what they should spend their day with (and where).

So, the lockdown was more a psychological thing (IMO).
Interesting nevertheless.
Sociologists (and related sciences) will have enough fodder for the next years to come, that much is sure.

Due to the long incubation-period, a literal "tsunami" of cases could have built up that would have suddenly crippled not only hospitals but also a lot of critical infrastructure.

Contrary to popular believe, the utilities (energy, water, etc.) don't run themselves. They need people. Do I have to remind anybody that this country (and its neighboring countries) still run nuclear reactors?

These things are not like you 2.5kW diesel generator that just needs oil and fuel and then runs. They need skilled personnel. Those people don't grow on trees.

It might have all leveled off anyway (I think I have read reports that claim so), even with everybody pretending as if everything was peachy. But that would have been a very big bet that few politicians wanted to make.

Just because it sort-of worked in Sweden doesn't mean it would have worked in Italy (it clearly didn't). It might have worked in less populated parts of Europe, outside big cities. But nobody was really sure at that point.

Read an article earlier that a guy made half a million by selling a cream that would prevent 5G frequencies.

Re: Coronavirus

Very nice comparison of Switzerland and Sweden on the Tagi here (requires registration to read).

Amongst other things, it has a nice mapping of anti-Coronavirus measures and (separately) the progress of the disease. Switzerland brought in its maximum lockdown on 17 March. The daily rate of infections continued to increase until 23 March and only then began to decline. Exactly as you would hope with a successful lockdown.

Also shows very nicely how the Swedish outbreak is very much not under control.

I use a salt lamp for that. Here are the proven benefits:

They can clean the air ( WLAN,4G,5G ) in your home, soothe allergies, boost your mood and help you sleep
