I think the numbers fluctuate because they're coming from different offices. It seems only those confirmed with a second test that's been processed in Geneva "count" in the official stats.
As I understood it.

1st local test, if positive some make it to the news papers, others don't. And leading to 2nd local test, it that one is also positive send sample to Geneva for another test and if that is positive it becomes official. As it seems there can be days in between the tests.

Switzerland however is also not really quick with making the data available in the agreed upon format and reporting to the WHO, WHO yesterday reported 6, the maps crawl for 8 and we all know those numbers are from the past since more than that have been confirmed by Geneva. I compared to for example Sweden they simply reports stats twice a day, and it is very easy to find actual lists that show current state. In Switzerland I cannot find any list that is completely up-to-date.

EDIT: They had a press conference minutes ago and stated for example 14 in total, which is incorrect since Geneva already confirmed 15, and they said Zürich having 2 which is also old since we already had 2 before the Google Employee got confirmed.

And then there's the question of how many people are infected and never go to the doctor because their symptoms aren't acute.

True, but I cannot and will not blame the government for not publishing numbers they simply do not know. But I do expect open communication and a government showing accurate info to at least give me the idea they know what they are doing and are on top of the situation (This wether or not they can stop it)

Re: Coronavirus

I started coughing since Thursday. It somehow feels like tracheitis -- constant itching inside my chest, each breath is painful. Knowing that coughing can be a big problem nowadays, I tried to suppress it in bus & train.

But still I feel the urgent need to put a mask on. So that people are not too scared when I cough like there's no tomorrow. However it seems people are scared of the masks anyway.

This. I'm trying to understand how they can't get it right or be consistent when we're talking such low numbers. Can't nail it down as to 8,000 or 8,005? Okay fair enough. But can't nail it down when it's fewer than two dozen? Really?

It's fine to wear a mask to help protect others from whatever it is you have - cold, flu or covid19. It's probably a good idea to get yourself tested just to be safe.

I've had tracheitis and trust me, you'd have been in hospital by now. The doctor that threated me described the syptoms as feeling like you're having a heart attack. I was 19, collapsed over a garden wall in the street and was fighting to breathe.

why groan at me? like I said, my husband is a bit under the weather, and if i'm sick too without knowing it prevents me from spreading to the others, less droplet transmission.

That's true for regular surgical masks and dust masks, but N95 and FFP2 masks can help prevent the spread and contraction of the virus when worn properly.

"An N95 FFR is a type of respirator which removes particles from the air that are breathed through it. These respirators filter out at least 95% of very small (0.3 micron) particles. N95 FFRs are capable of filtering out all types of particles, including bacteria and viruses."

And do you plan to contact your physician? That goes for anyone else here with symptoms, or family member with symptoms. At least contact your GP.

A classic case of life imitating art..

The BBC documentary 'Contagion: The BBC 4 Pandemic' which aired again earlier this month, was set in Haslemere, Surrey. The first case of coronavirus to be transmitted on British soil has been reported in....Haslemere! That's an incredible coincidence for a small town of 10.4k people.

That what ennui said.

Coughing is not the problem, having some classical symptoms of Corona (dry cough, painful breathing) and not going to a GP or at least call them is a problem. For you and possibly for anyone who gets into contact with you.

If they are shouting and gesticulating wildly you don't have to worry, everithing is fine. If they are quiet and do not behave as Italians then run because there is something wrong.

I thought that everyone knew
Funny, that's what people say about me ever since childhood.

The diocese Chur will not be pleased about that. Then again it could use it as an excuse for empty churches. Anyway, shouldn't Chur be protected by the Lord?

It's not a problem. Only 49 people live in Chur.*

I contactd my GP. He'll arrange something. I don't have any recent contact with Italians or anyone from affected areas so I guess it's generally fine. But I'll wear masks, purely for mental stability.

And just in case, virus doesn't go along internet cables. No fear around me plz

How do you know that? Did you ask everyone if they had been to Italy?

You have to be checked and if he thinks it might be Corona you have to do further tests. A phone consult will not do it most likely. He´ll arrange something sounds a bit strange imho
