Re: Coronavirus

I went to the big Migros shopping center in Crissier this morning to do my usual weekly shopping.

There were posters everywhere at the Sunstore pharmacy to warn people that they had run out of masks and disinfectant.

A family member actually works at Migros there and told me it was crazy. They have to restock the shelves every hour, and people fill their caddies with dry goods.

I haven't been following this thread so apologies the following links have already been posted earlier on. I've already posted this on the Basler Fasnacht thread (about the Fasnacht's having been cancelled because of Corona).
Understood, but rather than have you catch up on this thread, I've found this to be giving the most up to date info...https://www.swissinfo.ch/eng/covid-1...-case/45582788

...I've also read some of the US survivalist on social media. They appear to believe the everyone is Switzerland is armed to the teeth (hence the obsession) and we'll all start shooting each other for food.
And Hollywood movie makers are salivating at the prospect of the normally well-behaved Swiss going nuts.

I went to our local Migros and asked for hand sanitizer. They've been sold out for days. Flour was sold out too. Most everything else was still available.
I was at Migros yesterday and they had a basket full of travel-size hand sanitizers. Didn't see anyone pick them up.

I was at Denner and Coop today and the shelves were basically full, including pasta, rice, oils, flour, long-life milk, etc. I didn't see anyone with overflowing carts.

If you are still looking for sanitizers, Apotheke Stadelhofen is making its own on the premises and has plenty to sell. Saw it on ZuriNews and can confirm full shelves today evening.

The only thing that Denner was out of was our preferred table wine (20% off yesterday and today, no surprise), but I got 6 cases yesterday at another one, so no big deal.

I told my wife we should pickup a case of whiskey or vodka, just in case the hand sanitizer is no longer available. She didn't go for it though.

Had the same thought, but I still have a mental block at buying a bottle of vodka at 11am so will have to sneak back in the evening sometime.

Re: Coronavirus

For those mocking the empty churches, in times like these, churches are actually likely to see quite an uptake in attendance. The Vaud churches are issuing hygiene instructions, including using individual cups for communion, not placing the wafer (?) directly in the mouth and maybe to dip it in the wine. And of course to wash hands before beginning communion. Holy water is being removed as well, and people are not being encouraged to shake hands at the end of the service. Maybe bring your own cup?

It may come, if a town is confined to residence, that they'll just have to livestream the service. Interesting times indeed!

I recently learned that the church I went to when growing up live streams on youtube every Sunday, to reach those who are ill or shut in.

On another note, first confirmed death in USA, despite Trump's claim that the virus hasn't come to the States.

? = The Eucharist. Holy Communion is taken at too close quarters for the current guideline of 2 meters, but I have little doubt that they'll find a way around that.
There comes a time in many peoples' lives when they can't attend mass in person, so it's far better that they stay safe at home and watch a televised service.

the 2 meters thing is if in contact for more than 15 minutes. It should be possible to organise it without a queue etc. You're still at risk just being seated in the pews though. It'll sort itself out, it always does after a few weeks.

I don't.

The only thing we bought "extra" today was one more liter of milk and an extra block of butter - but only because I'm making a lot of hot chocolate right now and I plan to make a cake tomorrow. Otherwise, business as usual.

I needed to get a few essentials so I stopped by the Coop in Pilatusmarkt Kriens, Luzern at around 3 pm and the store was half empty(of food, not people) The normal length isles had been shortened, with more distance between each as well. There was a large part of the store with just big bins with sale items, but with lots of unused space between them. More than half the frozen food section was just empty freezers, and the whole empty isle had been blocked off with a makeshift screen. Overall, the quantity and variety of available products seemed far below average.

They still had scotch and condoms, though.

That is some awful advice. With a 2%-10% mortality rate it is only a question of time until infrastructure starts to fail.

For those in Ausserschwyz, so is Löwen Apotheke in Seedamm Center, Pfäffikon SZ. The ran out today, but will have more made next week. You can reserve some if you stop by and ask.
