Careful. Both of these reactions feed the lions in the "alternative facts" circus.
Well, being aware that oneself can also make mistakes is part of the science. If this is badly used by other parties, well....it's just like any other badly used tool: knives, words, nuclear science. Tools have no morals, it's just how we use them.

Axa, that last line could be read by Morgan Freeman and give us chills, but I'm not sure exactly what it means, if not a complete neutralization of actual fact. Truth is a pretty elusive thing these days. Too many people have decided that the "line inside us" is the only thing that matters, facts be damned.
Not really, this is science. Data and results rule, your beliefs doesn't.

I don't understand the focus on facts when they are very few of them. Of course, we know more than 6 months ago but there are still many unknowns and decisions are still taken on incomplete information, albeit with caution.

People need to take their health into their own hands. I wish you doomers good luck depending on others in life to protect you from... well, anything. Because that's what masks do. You're angry at others for being skeptical over a rule that is meant to protect YOU. It's all about you. As is apparent in your virtue-signalling/insulting.
If you're really so scared to catch this thing and don't trust in your ability to recover, don't leave your house.
Agree with this.

I'm happy for people to wear masks if they choose to but don't try to make me suffer for it too.

Legally enforceable/mandatory/compulsory. It's that simple, and you have a peculiar definition of 'suffering'. Who's a little snow flake then!

But the flaw in sftb's statement that "If you're really so scared to catch this thing and don't trust in your ability to recover, don't leave your house" is that people have no way of knowing in advance how exactly they will or would be affected if they were to be infected with COVID-19. People with high blood pressure are more at risk, and that's about half of the adult population.

So how about this... If you don't want to wear a mask, then YOU don't leave YOUR house?

No, distrusting doctors is not contrarian. Ugh, here we go again.

What is contrarian is taking a list of given criteria, picking out the one that you disagree with, and claiming you've discredited the whole argument, acting snide and proud of yourself in the process. So yeah, you did that.

Did I say having a University degree was the only thing that makes one a trusted expert? No, I did not. So, go ahead and read it again. I'll wait.

BTW the "Appeal th Authority" fallacy doesn't mean what you think it means. It doesn't mean there are no facts as your Republican friends might say. We do have *actual* authorities on a great many subjects. The fallacy is an appeal to unsusstantiated, irrelevant, out of context authority, without backing or challenge by peers. I'm sure you knew that. But you went ahead and appealed to the authority who answered your Google search for logical fallacies.
... and since we have no indisputable, decorated expert whose every word with regards to Covid-19 should be trusted yet, that's exactly what it is... an appeal to (false) authority, just as you describe it.

You'd hate working in schools or any institution dealing with the public right now. Masks are mandatory.... and there's no wiggle room to get out of it.

The CDC states that only 9200 people in the US have died directly from COVID, i.e. without any serious underlying health problems.

9200 deaths FROM Covid in the US, yet 64'000 die each year just from regular flu.

Thats your "pandemic", now continue to crash your economies, take people's freedoms, and give your governments more power and control.
Barely anybody is killed by HIV.

Hooray! No reason to protect from that virus anymore! Condoms begone!!

Someone tell Freddie Mercury please.

Restricting people's movements, travel restrictions, forced masks in open air on the streets, complete cities under lockdown, restricted medical care, no access to doctors, no school, kids/students forced to stay home, parents with full time jobs forced to work from home and teach children is about the same as one wearing a condom. You are spot on

So given that the main purpose of masks is to protect others from you, you're happily saying you don't give a sh1t about anyone else.

Whoever goes out in a shop, pub, restaurant, public transport, school, knows that there is a possibility of an infection regardless of how many times you disinfect your hands and if you wear a mask or not. So those people, that are out, living normal lives don't really care about catching the flu or not. Otherwise they would be barricaded in their homes.

I'm not sure which is more frightening... How delusional you are or how unaware you are that you're delusional.

Do you seriously think that everyone who has to go out to get groceries or go to work to pay their rent and feed their kids, etc. doesn't care about catching the coronavirus? Do you seriously think that people who don't barricade themselves at home and never leave their house don't care about catching the coronavirus or don't mind if they do catch it?

You are completely delusional if you think that people don't care if they catch COVID-19 simply because they have to go the grocery store or the post office or have their hair cut, etc. Half the people I see waking in and out of the grocery store are choosing to use hand sanitizer. Why would they be doing that if they didn't care about catching the virus?

You could seriously use some work on your basic logic and critical thinking skills.

Last time I checked you can have everything you can imagine delivered to your doorstep for free or at most 7 CHF delivery fee.

So yeah, anybody that goes to get a hairdo - is more afraid how she/he looks but less so afraid of this flu we have at the moment.

Can you imagine most people are more afraid not to have trimmed bangs than to catch the flu?

I tried food home deliveries but I was not happy with the service. Availability of items varied and anyway the full store selection was not offered just a subset so it is not "everything you can imagine" unless you have a limited imagination`.
Migros Le Shop offers around 12,000 items which is around half of the store offering.
Delivered fruit and vegetables were not really fresh.
To take advantage of special offers you have to visit the store.

Many people have to go to work or school; it is much more than getting a hair cut.

It's also practical, not necessarily because of excessive preoccupation with one's looks. I have long hair, but don't want it to be 2 m long. I can't trust OH with scissors around it. C'mon....find another example.

Dr. Anthony Fauci said Friday that he's not sure what President Donald Trump meant when he said earlier that evening that the country is "rounding the corner" on the coronavirus pandemic.

Earlier Friday, a new model often cited by top health officials projected that more than 410,000 people in the US could die from the coronavirus by January 1 -- more than doubling the current death toll.

The model from the University of Washington's Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation said that near-universal mask use could cut the number of projected additional fatalities by more than half.
Source

US deaths have averaged over a thousand a day this month so which corner is Trump rounding. New US cases also spiked up yesterday but that is only one day.

With the US heading into Labor Day weekend I hope they all do take precautions.

Have you not been out in the last 2-3 months to see that everything is back to normal and people just had enough? They don't care anymore. It's only the few left here on EF that are making the virus more dangerous that really is, starting from day one.
