Breaking news!!! In Zürich the number of sufferers has increased dramatically. From one case to two ! ( unconfirmed )
The headline will read, "Coronavirus cases surge over last 24 hours in Zurich"

It’s not just the number of deaths that define an epidemic.
What does then?

The extent to which it spreads (think countries here Tom!) and the the number of those affected... When was the last time a city larger than NYC was quarantined?

Yep. Notorious public outrage is also an epidemic.

OK, but without any evidence this is conjecture. I wasn't asking for conjecture, I was asking for evidence as you stated it as a fact.

You might well be right, but so far no evidence.

Not quite, but you are getting closer to statistical evidence. Have another go.

Last night, I heard on the news that the number of people currently in the no travel / quarantine zone is more than the populations on NYC, London, Moscow, Paris and Berlin combined.

Masks are selling out on Amazon - https://www.businessinsider.com/amaz...20-1?r=US&IR=T ...and bizarrely, in Edinburgh too - https://www.independent.co.uk/news/u...-a9301196.html

The stupidest social media post I've seen today came from a South African woman claiming it's all a hoax because she was diagnosed with Coronavirus last September. The common cold is also classed as Coronavirus - https://www.who.int/emergencies/dise...ronavirus-2019

Population of China is still 2x combined population of US, Russia, France and Germany.
Wuhan, while in population comparable to NYC (same about their metro areas) is only China's 10th largest.

I wouldn't want to be healthy and locked up in Wuhan. That would really scare me.

Actually, from what I have read, Wuhan is 2x the size population wise to NYC...

It seems like a good excuse for the Chinese Govt to practice their barbarism of " total control"of the masses.

What makes you think they need an excuse for that in a totalitarian state?

Re: Coronavirus

Well heres some points to consider

"China’s attempts to curb the disease’s spread — essentially cordoning off the major cities in the province of Hubei, including its capital, Wuhan, a city of 11 million people — are a “public health experiment, the scale of which has not been done before,” said Dr. William Schaffner"

I don't think they "jumped" but maybe numbers closer to the real situations are getting out. The text mentioned 10 000. And that's already old news. I bet that lady doesn't sleep, trying to get the real data.

Re: Coronavirus

The two people in Zürich have been cleared from suspicion of having the virus, Germany however has confirmed their first patient.

And I still believe as I do from the start that China is not telling the truth about the numbers or even comes close to telling the truth. We're stil at the beginning of it all and an end is nowhere in sight.

I think that's a fair assumption regarding ANY claim that comes from the Chinese government.

Their economy is growing 10% this year, with or without coronavirus

Odd non-sequitur, but not quite correct. "Real GDP growth in 2019 was 6.1%, according to official numbers.", according to Forbes. The IMF recently reviewed up their forecast for 2020, from 5.8% to 6%, which was "acknowledged" by the China Morning Post (based in HK, but owned by Alibaba).
