Okay boomer, dunno why you interpreted my post that way, I was merely trying to present a more accurate percentage of the current fatality rate based on the numbers we have.

2% is just false.
indeed 2% is way too high

LOL boomer, you really have no clue, chips on both shoulders

A local doctor cannot test for Covid-19, only hospitals can do such. Tests are costly and not in unlimited amount (also on manpower since they are pretty labour intensive)

Unless you've been to high risk areas (think: South Korea, the effected part of Italy, have a family member who did so and also has symptoms, or a colleague has it they'll first run the normal tests and in our case another virus has been proven that exact matches our symptoms. Also his daycare has 200 other kids and my wife been to a congress of 700 people who keep track of their guests and none is coronasuspect.
Sixth day and still high fever of the little one sounds exausting for you too - as a parent -, but especially for the poor thing...(he must be really tired because of the cough and the lack of proper sleep). Maybe you should call your GP/paediatrician again and specifically tell him about the fever? And that you are concerned. Just a thought. (I'm not thinking of that virus btw, it could be also an annoying bacterial infection and that would require antibiotics)
I wish you all to get well soon!

I've done pretty busy 24/7 on-call services for years I'm fine without the existence of a sleeping schedule so it is not so bad. And kids, well if they are to tired they just crash where they stand and coughing in his sleep does not wake him up.

I'm not concerned and we left the paediatricians office 20 hours ago, and my wife has left her doctors office 2 hours ago. They are fully aware of the situation, and have the same findings and agree on the treatment.

So best thing I can do now is to make a nice coffee and enjoy it in the sun

France shuts dozens of schools in bid to contain coronavirus

PARIS: French officials have closed about 120 schools in areas that have reported the largest numbers of coronavirus infections,
and more could be shuttered in the coming days, Education Minister Jean-Michel Blanquer said on Tuesday (Mar 3).
Both primary and secondary schools have been shut in the Oise
department north of Paris, where the main cluster of French cases has emerged, and where two people who have died of the virus lived.

Yep, seems we are slowly rolling into the next stage of trying to fight a further spread. Same will happen in Switzerland if the numbers keep going up (we're over 40 by now)

Well, how closely packed are the guys on military service? 1st case in the Schweizer armee

https://www.srf.ch/news/schweiz/coro...en-ersten-fall
Actually pretty packed. This year was a bumper recruitment year following a crackdown on men choosing a civil duty over their military duty. My youngest son is doing his military service now. His barracks would usually house around 250 men. They have 400 on this intake. Military personnel are given a night out on Wednesdays which is cancelled until further notice. I hope my lad is allowed home at the weekend. He is not in the affected barracks btw.

Just as an aside, I wonder how many British 'baby boomer' generation posters remember this:

Corona Pop delivered in 5 different flavours . . . . . . . .

I remember it. And I'm generation X.

Yup, military is not a like a hotel.

I heard from a friend that half of them had to change their sleeping direction so instead of directly breathing each others air they now can smell each others feet.

I hope that long walks are cancelled..

Re: Coronavirus

Actually that's a good point about the marches. Last week's was in gas masks. They always seem to be held in the evening/night. That would certainly be a bonus for my son if they were cancelled.

except as stated thousands of times already a lot of people have it / have had it and had no idea, you're only hearing about the serious / confirmed cases so stop being a drama queen
Read this morning that some now believe the undercounting is relatively low. But 1% fatality rate still holds.

The younger people are the less they are effected by the virus, I'm 47 and my kid is 3,5 statistically it is very highly unlikely that I only have a small fever and little cough, while he coughs almost 24/7 and we are in the 6th day of surprising a fever which has reached 40 (or even higher) on a daily base.

I still play a lot with him or he sleeps in my arms on the couch, and he coughs me in the face dozens of times a day, so I have what he has.
I'd have your 3,5 yr old checked professionally if he's on day 6 with 40deg fever. My kid was sick a lil while ago and an ORL MD told us that the rule now is 5 days high fever, have her checked. Especially if there are moments that you can hear him out of breath.

Just because your tot is quite affected doesn't mean it is not corona.

Get well you 3, asap

Nor if it's not corona does it mean it isn't serious.

This! I wonder if Edwin could have a house call, since he himself is sick. I know some people here having had MDs coming to them.

Reread post#1407.

Plus, I was under the impression that Edwin was an epidemiologist. I'm sure he knows what's best.

They appear to be following their set strategy which I find reassuring. Comparing the Swiss response to the UK's response (currently with 51 confirmed cases), I'm relieved to be here.
