For people not used to it, of course. I think most of us missed the point of she already being US citizen

As an example, the US are one of the few Administrations requiring to pay taxes at home even when the citizen is permanently living abroad.
And then when it comes to banking there are special rules for US citizens, or even unavailability of some services.

I would think twice before marrying a US woman and getting US citizenship with plans of staying in Europe. I know a couple of Swiss people who by chance were born in the US and had dual citizenship, they gave it up at around age 18 for the reasons above (and had to pay for it).

Yes, that's what I was referring to. I also suggested that it might be worse for the OP, having (currently) only US citizenship -- he would bear the brunt of the US-phobic attitude of banks and other financial (and other) institutions here, with no parachute in the form of the rotes Büchlein.

As he's US, nothing changes for him marrying another US person.

However, in some years he can get facilitated Swiss and then give up his US if so inclined.
