| | Need for a nurse at home- help with injections
Hello everyone, this is my first post in this forum, and happy to meet you all.
I have a prescription from my doctor in France for medication that needs sub cutaneous injection and I could really use the help of a nurse at home, rather than try on my own. Does anyone know any nurse that help with administering of medication?
Thanks to everyone for any tips you can give me!
Have a great day,
Labrina

Didn’t they give you instructions how to do it? My mum just finished a course of treatment which involved daily self administered injections and the method was pretty straight forward so she was able to do it easily (she’s pretty squeamish but had no problems).
You could also pop into a pharmacy and get them to check you’re doing it correctly as well as give you some tips.

Labrina | | | | | You don't need any help with this from Spitex! Its the easyist thing to do.Disinfect. Select area-stomach area. Pinch the skin up a little. Inject at 45 degrees to the skin level ( or Less ). Make sure no air in the injection. Release skin. Finish.Disinfect. No problem! From 20 years experience as a trained medical practitioner

Go buy an orange or a lemon and practice a bit, it’s exactly the same sensation, without the slight prick

I had a serious needle phobia....until my child was diagnosed at 6 years old with Type 1 Diabetes... injections 4+ times a day... you can do it!
(hard to feel too sympathetic, I'm guessing you don't have to do it every day for the rest of your life)...

Yes SubC injections are very easy for a layperson to do... once you have become used to doing them.
But it certainly is understandable why someone new to giving SubC injections would want a bit of support at first. I was terrified the first time - and then soon wondered what all the fuss was about. But having guidance the first time was indeed helpful.
Lina, as you mention the meds are from your French doctor - are you here as a visitor, or are you resident in Switzerland?
(Depending on which it is, my suggestions for getting help would be different.)

In France it is easy to find an independent nurse, but here I dont know anyone and it would help me if they come to my place in the evenings.. Any tip you could give me?

Yes hi OP. Contact Spitex (as mentioned in a previous post). If you have health insurance it may also be covered. Here the contact details: http://www.spitex-zuerich.ch/ | This user would like to thank ZuriRollt for this useful post: | |

Dear all, thank you for your replies and for giving me courage to do it on my own! Still, as the solution needs a bit of preparation I would rather take the help of a professional. Thanks for letting me know if you know any freelance or independent nurses, cheers to all

Have a great day,
Labrina | | | | | You could make an appointment with a doctor or at a large clinic. They can instruct you on the procedure. So you would only need one appointment https://www.permanence.ch/kontakt

(and it would get you some time away from your keyboard, so everybody wins here)

I would do it myself if the medication didn't need prepa, but as it does i prefer to see if I have any other option. I am not afraid of needles or the pain ;-) | Quote: | | | | | Even if Omtatsat groans at this, give them a call and probably someone there can show you how it is done. | | | | | thank you Roegner, I will check them out!

| | Re: Need for a nurse at home- help with injections | Quote: | | | | | I work both here and in France | | | | | If by some chance the 'public' Spitex can't help you due to residency/insurance/lack of local doctor referal issues, there are private home health care services as well. You would simply need to clarify how costs are handled. I googled 'private+spitex+Zürich' and got several hits. As I don't know any of these personally I won't link them, but you can do the same search and start calling around.
As an aside, if you are working in Zürich a lot, and are under medical care, it might make sense to find a local GP practice, if only as a back-up in case you need care here.
