How to make your own hand sanitizer

Can anyone recommend products to use (and their names in German) and a recipe to do your own hand sanitizer?

I just bought a bottle of 150 ml for over CHF 12.-!!!

Thank you!

Re: How to make your own hand sanitizer

Donít use Vodka, even mixed with Aloe Gel. The vodka is only 40% alcohol and you need 70%.

There are much better uses for the Vodka, in any case.

Re: How to make your own hand sanitizer

I got half a liter of 70% alcohol from my pharmacy for 12.50. Mix that with aloe vera gel and you're there. I haven't done it yet but will try it on Monday

From what I've heard today on the Swiss radio, the correct proportions are important. And that you need water to get the alcohol to be effective.

Alcohol has to be atleast 60%. Too high, like 90%, is not effective either and affects the skin adversely as well.

So take 10 parts 70%-Alcohol by volume, mix with 1 part Aloe-vera gel or Glycerine and you have a basic sanitizer.

Using sterile distilled water or cooled boiled water is also recommended.

You should try Rasputin Rot Vodka 70% and actually pretty mild. I did not finish to empty the bottle btw (unless it pouring almost empty on my lap while I slept does count)

Checked my cellar for the Strohrum I used to have. Must have thrown it out a some point.

I tried that with aloe gel and it separated out into some sort of fluffy white floaty bit and liquid. The plain alcohol works, of course, but it's a tad messy to use. Any advice on what I did wrong?

Re: How to make your own hand sanitizer

Good luck finding the alcohol.

My local pharmacy was making it's own hand sanitizer, but they have had to pause production for the moment as even they cannot get the alcohol now.

I've just been using brennalkohol from Coop. It's methanol, I believe, but it should do the trick just fine.

Emphasis mine. I do hope it's not methanol. One letter makes a difference.
